Re: road trip with a carbureted LS1..pics

Hello from Tennessee. Thanks for all the support. I met a couple of you from the site and i'm horrible with names. One had a real nice blue C10 that i'd like to see again today. Need to bolt my new sport mirrors onto my truck and need to take some measurements.

The trip from Texas was pretty uneventful except for a good sized storm in Mississippi that tested my untested wiper motor. I had borrowed a set of wipers from Scott at Kustomwerx, which was cool but the motor only worked intermittently. Thank god for rain-x.

I'll be heading for Rogers, Arkansas today so see my folks and then heading home.

thanks again!

At least you made it home in one piece.

I hate fuel system issues. I chased one for a month on an Elky I had and it came down to a new sending unit with a huge glob of solder plugging the supply line partially. Who would have thought.

Good luck with the trouble shooting.

cant help but to laugh at the mental picture of you pulling over every 60 miles, jumping out, pulling the make-do fuel line out of one jug, then jamming it into another and jumping back into the truck... all Ricky Bobby NASCAR pit crew style

The truck looks awesome, I really like the low sheen blue paint. Im glad it ran well and made the trip almost trouble free. Fuel system problems are no fun at all, but at least you know both pumps work. Any new news on the vibration?

I think the most annoying part has been that I've had the tank in and out of the truck twice. The first time I fixed it by replacing the cracked fuel line. Nope. The second time I put a new pickup and sending unit in and now that fixed the fuel delivery issue but now my gas gauge only reads 1/2 full. Both senders were 90 ohm units so I dont know what that is all about.

you should have seen the looks on truck driver's faces when id pull over, swap the hose and get back on the road and pass them again. Must've passed the same long haul trucker 20 times through AZ and CA. lol

I quickly checked the suspension bolts to make sure they were tight but didn't have much time to spend on it because as soon as I got home from the trip i left town to go drag racing in Bakersfield, CA.

I did find a couple of issues though. It looks like the inside lip of the right front wheel rubbed on the control arm when i made a tight u-turn. that might have made the wheel out of balance. It's either that or the driveline was vibrating because of the suspension being fully compressed without all the weight in the bed. I just drove it with the bed empty this morning and it vibrate. Guess its time for some rear airbags.
