Re: 76 Blazer build
I bought a donor for the shortbox today. Its a 1980 3/4 ton that my grandfather bought brand new. Its only got 60k on it and runs and drives but the body and frame are horrible. Its going to be hard to cut it up for senimental reasons, but what do you do. Its a 350, turbo 350/205 combo. thats right the 77 is going to be an auto for a little while.

Boy, the neat stuff gravitates towards you doesn't it? Looks like a lot of great parts sitting there.

Re: 76 Blazer build
Stuff does seem to fall into my lap sometimes, my grandapa passed away a few years ago and one of my uncles has had the truck since then. A few different people had tried to buy the truck in the past but it wasent for sale until I wanted it. He wanted it or at least part of it to stay in the family.(he knew how bad it was)

Re: 76 Blazer build
I know how that goes. I've had to part a couple vehicles that had some amount of sentimental value, I saved everything I could and am trying to use everything on something else I have.

Re: 76 Blazer build
A few updates, I pulled the dana 60 out of the shortbox and put the 10 bolt in it, I have been working alot lately on my friends 70 cab. So far I have the 1 piece floor welded in and am working on the door posts, rocker, and cab corner on the passenger side. On a side note, I went to napa and autozone to get banjo bolts for the pre 79 brake calipers on the short box only to be told at both places that they are not available. WTF?

Re: 76 Blazer build
finally broke the blazer out of the garage to begin the rear spring hanger swap with the short box. For reference, the blazer is stock hieght with 32s, and the shortbox has a 6 inch with 29s or 30s.

Re: 76 Blazer build
So, I swapped the shackle flip out of the shortbox and installed them in the blazer, the front of the shortbox sits pretty high so hopefully installing the engine and trans will bring it down. I parted out my grandapas truck last weekend. I have never seen a truck that had been completely non modified before, it was completely intact including all of the smog equipment and the AC even blew cold. the only problems that it had during its life were the soft cam at 5k was replaced and the starter was replaced recently.

Re: 76 Blazer build
How as in finding the time? Not exactly sure yet, I am still thinking about painting it the original glenwood green and keeping the top black like it originally was. Maybe open to suggestions?

Re: 76 Blazer build
yeah, I guess being able to buy a panel that is close to fitting is easier than fabing up the whole thing, nothing seems to fit perfect out of the box

Re: 76 Blazer build
wow nice work, I want one of them novas and the short bed myself.
What kinda rustoleum spray paint is that I see the can in the pics? Hope it aint primer or something because it don't hold up for crap. I used it on my dad's 84 when I did cab corners, rockers and upper arches it sucks it rusted right under the paint.

Re: 76 Blazer build
applying any type of primer has alot to do with surface prep. If you dont take the time to properly prep and clean the surface, nothing will stick

Re: 76 Blazer build
Well i've made a little more progress on the shortbox. My grandpas engine didnt pan out due to water in a couple of cylinders. Turns out that one of my cousins had creased the hood (hinges froze) and didnt try to close it. It sat that way for about a year and let water sit on the air cleaner. So I had to dig out an engine that I had tore down about 4 years ago and rebuild it. Its funny how projects change directions, next my wife is going to want the dana 60 put back in it. lol
warning: the dreaded cell phone photos!
