Now it looks better with the correct bumper on it. Way to go.

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
If you are going to custom anyway I'd move the lights out of the bumper for a cleaner look. As far as the paint, those spots are where the graphics go. Black and white, been done.
If you do go flat, think tinted. |

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
So for the paint "issue" I'm gonna use an epoxy primer so that I don't have to use a sealer and I can just pain over it when I'm ready to paint after all the body work is done.
Hard Luck- A tint would be nice, but I'm just going to want to cover up all the crap until I can do a full resto on it.

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
Any new updates?
You got a killer deal on the truck and it's in fairly good condition. I wish mine was in better shape, i just purchased a 71 GMC 3/4ton 4x4 LWB and it needs alot of elbow grease. Are you putting a lift in yours at all? |

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
Thanks Maniac, but I don't have any updates. I'm still working on wet sending the primer off. I did a bit yesterday but nothing to mention. As far as a lift is concerned; I guess I will decide when I do a full resto. what I really want to do with it. As for now, no I will not lift it. but I might later.

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
Not much for updates. I replaced the seals in the front axle and replaced the wheel bearings on the front axle also. It wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be, but the ol' girl drives much better now.

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
I got my first thumbs up yesterday. It was kinda cool; the guy was driving an old VW bug that was all patinaed. I just thought I'd share.

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
I like the way that the two tone looks with just the white top. So I decided to do it to mine. It's not a great or even good paint job; it might be a 10 or 20 footer. So she looks nice from across the street or in passing on the road.

Sure am, and it's taking forever to do also. I'm just doing a little at a time so it won't feel like such a big project.

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
That's right!
******* So I finally let my wife drive the truck this weekend to a small local car show, and she loved it. Her first car was a 60 something Studebaker so it kinda brought her back. So since she like it so much I've been looking at trying to find on for her. I've been looking at this '67 and the guy might trade me for my '88 (been trying to sell that for a while) I told her today and she said that I have to get rid of one of my other trucks first. I said deal I'm getting rid of that '55 cab that's sitting in the garage. Come Monroe swap meet that thing is not coming home with me (well either way, if we get the '67 or not). We'll see what happens, and I'll let you guys know if/when I get it. Progress on the '71; I finally decided to cut out the old muffler and put in a glass pack, I should have done this sooner. Now she sounds like the truck I know she is. I need a name for her don't I? I'm going to have to do some thinkin' on this.

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
The wife didn't go for the '67 trade. So I'm still with the '88.
There was just a good sized swap meet this last weekend and I found a set of mirrors that I've been wanting to get for a while now. I got the passenger side mounted earlier today. Thought I'd post a couple pictures of it. I will take some more when I get the other one on this weekend coming up.

No real progress; I just put the other mirror on, and took those extensions off. What do ya think?

I do like that upper arm better but I thought you wanted to make it look stock. Either way it looks like it fits right in. Nice work...pat,pat,pat.

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
I think that the arms that were on there when I got them are from a square body rig. I have noticed a few with the arms like I made.

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
Ya I did that also, but that was a while ago. I just got some new to me mirrors at the swap meet, and they didn't have the right upper arm on them so I made new ones.
In a month or so I'm going to paint the truck satin black and a glossy white top.

Re: '71 Chevy 1/2 4x4
I think that my radio just dies yesterday. I went to the pull-a-part to look for a square body van radio with FM. I couldn't find one but I did find this removable FM radio that mounts under the dash, and it is stereo. I'm thinking about putting a couple 4" speakers under the dash and putting a 6x9 woofer in place of the factory speaker.
I will have a look at the stock AM radio to see if it will still work.
