Re: 72 Suburban Started
I had to cut the motor mount brackets on the rear side just a little and weld in a recess pipe for the headers to fit but overall they look good, I will post some photos soon/ I have been out of town the last couple of weeks Chattanooga and New Orleans so I have not made any progress.

Re: 72 Suburban Started
The weater was great this weekend and I was able to get the 3rd door rocker panel welding started and redesigned the motor mounts so the headers were clear them, I will be able to start the engine soon and then I can start on the rear drop.

Re: 72 Suburban Started
Did a little work on the Suburban recently on a nice day .... got the wood floor out of the back in order to get ready to install the step notch and bag the back.
![]() Luckily the spare tire well bolts in so it was easy to remove. ![]() ![]() ![]() All the crap we took out .. floor wasn't in that bad of shape but a wood floor wasn't going to work with the current direction. ![]() ![]() Now, lots of room to work .. next on the list is to clean the frame up. The rest of the factory tubs will be coming out as well, looks like there will be plenty of room for some rubber. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: 72 Suburban Started
Thanks, we have the stock seats for it ... we want to be able to cruise with family and friends in it. If we come across a good deal, might eventually get some seats out of something modern but for now trying to keep the budget down. Just taking left over pieces from other projects and incorporating it.

Re: 72 Suburban Started
Well I was able to cut out the factory cross members and clean the rear frame I will start installing the rear setup this week. I need so help with the front and rear wheel sizes, I want to run 20s with a good sizes tire height but not sure of the offsets . I am going to channel the body so it should layout pretty low and I want as much tire width as I can get in the rear. Some of the suburban guys post me some of your rear setup with wheels so I can see what looks good.

Re: 72 Suburban Started
I was able to get my gas stick welder home so I can install the rear suspension; my mig welder is just not large enough. I am also ready to fire up the engine this weekend and install my core support and radiator. I wish that I had bought a 67-69 core support instead of the 70-72 since I am going to order a new front clip. I may just have to reorder a core. How hard is it to modify a 72 to fit a 68 front clip?

Re: 72 Suburban Started
I just fired up the motor today and it is running great so far but I did have to get a new fuel pump, I am working on the rear suspension this weekend and when I get it on all 4 wheels again I will load it up on my trailer and take it to get some exhaust installed. I still have to order the new front clip and I still have a lot to do but I have the fever again and hope to get it drivable soon.

Worked on it some more yesterday, got the bridge bars in and the bag mounts. Should have blocks and possibly a new panhard bar in by next weekend.

Re: 72 Suburban Started
Nice progress. When the burb is air out how much room do you have between the top of the axle and bottom of the notch? Im going to do a similar set up to yours.

This is from Jmorales3181's build but I think it shows the relationship of the notch to the axle pretty good. This is of course with blocks. ![]() |
