Re: Show your motor..73-87

This is my 454 i built myself for my 86 short box gmc, the vlave covers and breather setup has be changed to comp aluminum covers running braided lines into breather tanks mounted on the inner fenders. really dirty under the hood kinda let the truck go in the last 3 years.

I am working out the design in autocad, Once I have the design figured out I will machine and weld out the parts.

On that note, I am moving into a new shop, I have put the truck up for sale, but not sure im going to let it go. Times are just kind of tight right now.

Re: Show your motor..73-87

I just finished getting my 400 ready to put in my 84. I didnt buy one of those specialty tools for my exhaust manifolds so I improvised by visiting the hardware isle at home depot and it worked like a charm.

Re: Show your motor..73-87

yes I understand the paint colors......but as far as i know ......no truck in this section (73-87) should have a orange engine. i am just wondering why they choose to paint them orange and not the blue or black, I am not trying to be a smart azz. I understand that orange is the small block color of choice, and most people identify small blocks as being orange. Just wanted to hear from the guys who have done it.......P.S. my engine should be blue but since its in a newer truck I changed it to black, I went with truck year color then going with engine color

My 74 had the original engine in it when I bought it from the original owner, It was the classic Chevy orange. The 76 engine I bought and pulled out of a wrecked truck was also the Chevy orange, I don't remember exactly what year they went to the blue block....
