I took these a few years back. I like the way the bumper brackets are covered and the tail light is part of the bed.

Re: heres the progress of the build of my 57 chevy
thanks for the picts! there just what I was looking for! I was worried about how close the bumper was going to be to the back end after leaning the gate! I had thought about using a pair of older taillights and these picts have given me a few ideas! thanks again! will post more picts tonight. think I have a plan for the tailgate, but will wait and share it tonight after working on it today!

Re: heres the progress of the build of my 57 chevy
I am a fan of the stock tailgates with the spot welds, etc. cleaned up. I like the embossed Chevrolet. You might think about some horizontal strip tail lights along the bottom rail since it projects out from the tailgate. Lots of aftermarket guys are making LED ones for the rods.

Re: heres the progress of the build of my 57 chevy
well I put alot of thought into what I wanted to do with the tailgate.I had bought some 16 gauge steel to smooth it, but wasnt all that keen on the overall look. when you look at these trucks theres not a straight body panel on them and I didnt like the idea of just having a flat gate. I kept staring at the doors of the truck and the shape of them. then I had an idea. I took and cut the skin off of a 1992 chevy tailgate. the shape is identical to the doors. so I figured this would shape up the ass end and give it some curves.

Re: heres the progress of the build of my 57 chevy
after tacking on the skin I used the left over pieces to give the box ends some shape to match the gate, a little blending and it turned out awsome. I was staring at it and thought it would be cool to have the lettering, but I didnt want the outward shape of the letters, and remembered that I had an old gate off of a 67-72 truck and recalled that the letters are inset the opposite of the original gate and messured out the letters and it fits just perfect and looks right at home.

Great work on the tailgate. The Chevrolet stamped will look much better than painted on.

Three into one, how cool is that. I was looking for a third brake light to show up in the handle opening. Can't wait to see the next installment.

Re: heres the progress of the build of my 57 chevy
well I finally figured out what I wanted to do for tail lights. I bought led lights to fit in the eight. the top will be clear lens with amber lights and the bottom is clear with red lights. Im still undecided on whether or not to mold in the logo or to chrome it and mount it to the fender. my father would be proud, I made the logo out of 7018 welding rod.lol hes a welder by trade!

Love the truck. Great details. I think the tail lights would be killer without the V.

Nah, keep the V, that is bad ass. Brings back the classic V8 emblem and ties it into the truck. I say chrome it!

You definetly can tell you have been doing this for awhile. Looks really good and I am sure there is not going to be another truck out there like yours.
