Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project
Today I swapped the old leaky quadrajet for another quadrajet that has an electric choke conversion. It's the one in the video of the Satellite running. Also gives me my linkage back for the kickdown cable for the transmission so I can hook it up. Gonna have to notch the linkage on the cable, though, because it's not original. Fired right up and ran great, just have to run my choke hot wire through the fire wall to the fuse box tomorrow and get that working.
Still pending on the brackets for the radiator... |

Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project
Yesterday, ran a new hot wire for the choke to the fuse box and got it set up. Started it up and ran it down the road. With the new quadrajet, it bogs for a second when it gets into the 4 barrel under a load. I don't know how to get the right metering rods and such to get a quad to run good.
Anyway, it ran pretty good and I was getting a video of driving it and suddenly it started making some BAD noises and lost power. Pulled it around and shut her off. Apparently the alternator's belt was frayed a bit and caught something. It flipped the belt upside down, but didn't kick it out of the pulley. Almost shredded the bottom of my radiator hose with the frayed off fibers. Was gonna buy some used radiator brackets from a guy, but turned out they aren't worth it, so gonna order some from LMC and they'll be here in about a week. I've got pictures of the radiator and such, but gonna have to post them tomorrow due to this friggin' computer . |

Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project
I make it sound like it, don't I? Lol, it's chewing on my wallet, but I'm doing what I can for the meet. Some pictures and crappy news.
Radiator... Hard to tell, but that dude is wide. Surprised the heck out of me how much wider it was than the 3. Not sure if the belt is the whole story, smoked quite a bit when I started it back up to move it the other day, so may be something more wrong with it. Here's the belt. |

Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project
Forgot to bring my card AGAIN! Been flipping between which ones to use and forgot both of them, so no pictures.
Pulled the clutch fan, top brackets, and fan shroud off this evening. I was going to go ahead and install the new brackets and radiator, but heard about going out to Neil's to do some work tomorrow so I closed up for the evening. Also decided to pull out the smog canister and bracket. Found a hair comb, a ball of bailing wire and a top mount trailer tailight wedged beneath it. Took off some more jenky wiring and changing the stripped posts on the battery. Also question, can anyone throw up a picture of their Top Alternator Bracket from a '71 350? |

Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project
Was gonna take a picture of in with the new of all of it together. I guess I could technically get a picture of it now, even though I have a problem.
The engine is out of a '89 Z28 or so the ole boy said. We think he went straight across with the water pump and changed from serpentine with it. It looks like the old style, but it must not be because it's pushing hot water through the bottom hose and trying to pull from the thermostat, we think. So now that I had everything off to deal with the pump yesterday, I bolted it all on and started it to find I need another pump . Pictures pending... |

Re: 71 Cheyenne C10-20 project
Well we used my camera to take pics and a vid and then Blake had to jet so I'll post them for him. He got the new water pump installed and it was sucking the coolant out of the radiator like it should so that's resolved. He also installed the new flex fan he got from Neil and the stainless battery tray form Mar-K. So, new 4core radiaotor, new 4core brackets and rubber, new hoses, new water pump, new flex fan and spacer and he should be able to drive it to the truck meet.
