Re: My first project truck - 84 Chevy swb
Your truck is outstanding. The paint scheme of your truck is what inspired me to buy a square body and start my project. I had been looking for some time for a 67-72 model with no luck. I stumbled accross the truck I now own but could not visualize how to get the feel that I wanted for the project. After I saw my truck on the side of the road, I started looking at pictures of squares. Several were interesting, but yours was the one that made me pull the trigger.
Mine is a long wheel base and will feature different colors. Love the Impala wheels on yours, but I couldn't find those within my project budget. The project is evolving as it goes but most things are tied down. Thanks for sharing the pictures and for the excellent work on your truck.

Re: My first project truck - 84 Chevy swb
Thanks man! I really like the way my paint scheme came out, just needs a few touch ups now... I sure am glad that I could inspire some one else with my truck. Oh and the wheels are actually eagle alloy series 28 I think, not impala wheels, but close to it. Goodluck on your project man!

I've been seeing the beast parked at your work. My daughter is playing softball down the street. Looks good parked out there for all the people to see.

Need to find something more reliable and gas friendly for a daily driver.

Re: My first project truck - 84 Chevy swb
Sorry you are selling it, but I understand. You could try my solution. I ride my motorcycle most of the time, so I get good average gas mileage. Of course, the truck gets better mileage than the bike right now, since the truck is in paint prison.

Re: My first project truck - 84 Chevy swb
You'll regret it if you sell it. Trust me. For me it was a 1950 chevy truck.

Re: My first project truck - 84 Chevy swb
Man, just pick up an old beater that gets good mileage. There are some deals on Craigslist. I know it's expensive to drive these older trucks but, you will regret it if you do.

Re: My first project truck - 84 Chevy swb
I've had a few of the 99 up Silverados with a v8. If you're after true mileage, that's not the rig. Maybe the 4.8 single cab really gets 22+mpg. Not sure? Never had one of them. I understand your delimma for sure. I had to trade off my 77 to get a new 96 back in the day. Now, I have a 07 with a 6.0 and it gets about the same average as my son's 86 with a 5.7 TBI....maybe a few mpg better but I use it mostly for towing the boat. It's nice to have both the older truck and the newer one in a perfect world. Anyway, I hope you figure out a way to keep it. I know I sure would like to have my 77 back. Good luck.

Re: My first project truck - 84 Chevy swb
my 2004 z71 gets 14.7mpg ....no matter how I drive. Believe it or not the 96 z71 in my avatar gets 16mpg and its rolling on 38x15.5x15 super swamper TSLs. s10s dont even get great mpg. around 20 if your lucky.

Re: My first project truck - 84 Chevy swb
My 05 Crewcab Z71 with the 5.3 gets (going from the average readout on the dash) a whooping 11.2 MPG. Granted, I live 2 miles from my shop and that is about all it gets driven, hardly any highway use.

Re: My first project truck - 84 Chevy swb
I second the cheaper beater. My Mustang isn't a beater, but it's not a new car, either. With the 5.0, 5 speed, and 2.73 gears, I average a little over 20 MPG per tank, and I still like to drive it. I was planning on swapping gears when I first got it, but I have really grown to like it (especially with $3.80 per gallon gas).
