The motor didn't come with a tranny, and I initially got the 700r4 for cheap. After going through a rebuild, and now having to deal with the tv cable on the throttle body, and no vss, I regret not getting the newer electronic tranny. Either a 4l80 or a 6 speed will be an upgrade in the future.

I got ya. I scored an ls1 for my build. Will be striking out to a 383. Can't decide between a t56 or a 4l80e teams. I'll be back working on mine when i return to the states next week. Just ordered a bunch of parts

Great job on the oil pan. Isn't welding oil injected dirty aluminum fun?? Been there done that ... many times.

Thanks guys. I want to start gathering parts for the fuel and brake lines. I'm figuring to run all 3/16" lines for the brakes, and 3/8" feed/5/16" return for the fuel. Anybody know of some nice line holders to mount the lines to the rails?

That was the worst. The only good part about welding that pan was welding the two filler pieces of plate that I added to it.

I got around to rebuilding all my door hinges. The lower hinges for each door were both rotted too far gone. I was lucky enough to find a local shop that has a boneyard of old Chevy truck parts and I picked up some originals for cheap. Blasted em, put in new bushings, and now ready for some paint.

I was also in the middle of making my transmission crossmember when my bandsaw finally called it quits. The gear had been slowly wearing down and is now toothless. I ordered a new one and hope to finish the crossmember soon.

Change of plans... Got tired of thinking about all the variables that were against me by not running an electric trans, so I went out and got a 4l60e. It was a core and I plan on completely rebuilding it. As expected, there was some carnage. The plan is to pump up this trans so I don't have to worry about it and then pick up an HP tuners module so I can eventually really dial in the drivetrain. Anybody need a 700r4?

The headers are off the chain better than the store bought versions that's for sure.

Its been a while since I've posted any progress. While I was in the middle of rebuilding my 4l60e, a friend of mine had his transmission blow up on him. It was also a 4l60e, so I spent a few weeks building his. I just got mine all back together last week. This weekend I was able to finalize the drive angle and build the trans cross member. Almost time for a driveline.

That came out very nicely. Very functionable. You should think about a driveshaft safety loop after that next X-member. Not that it's a race truck but if you ever lost a shaft before ... the loop keeps it from dragging the ground & causing addt'll damage.

I hear ya on the driveshaft loop. I'll eventually fab one up that bolts to one of the cross members.

headers look good, do you have a collector yet? i need to figure out how to make collectors, they want an arm and a leg for those things.

Finished up the welding on the headers. The collectors were cheapo Hookers that needed some massaging to fit. Instead of the traditional 3 bolt collector flanges I decided I would try out the v-band and see how it works. All that is left is to weld in the bungs for the O2 sensors, blast em, and seal em.

On the horizon will be some new valve train components to get the headers singing.
