Re: My 65 Pickemup project
Ya good call, would sure be nice to run the stocker. I'm pretty sure the low hump will be fine.
Ok don't laugh, this is CIRCA 1990 and it was my high school truck. Small block with TH 350 (low hump). If a TH 350 will fit I'm sure a 700r will too. Changed the colour right after school. I know I know.LOL |

You'll have to convert to a high hump or fab a raised tunnel or it will hit the trans with the Porterbuilt X-member, sorry for the bad news.

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
So the Porterbuilt dropmember raises the engine and trans from the stock location?

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
yes, it raises about 3" and moves it forward about 2" . If you look at the low hump floor it is already marked for the cutout and the high hump drops perfectly into place. When you get the high hump youll need both pieces, the big part simply unbolts but the small part is spot welded in.

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
Man those tires are close to the bedsides! Also how close is that bumper to the ground? Great progress I love how you start with the back of the truck! Keep the pics coming!

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
Ya there is about 1/2 inch per side to the wheels. Changes a bit when it goes up but I hope it will work out. the rear bumper is an inch off when it lays frame. The frame sort of balances on the center cross member bolts. I am going to swap those bolts for a counter sunk allen head bolt. That should get me another 1/4 inch lower. LOL

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
Delmo,
SUPER JOB really like this project . STAY TUNED I am building almost the exact same build but it is a " Schlong Box" . Full Porterbuilt deal like yours. We are going with an ol skool shop truck theme to promote my powdercoating business. The truck was a dry west texas Craiglist find. NO RUST we will powdercoat the whole project flat clears etc. to keep the patina. Also some custom metal work by Roger Burman Lakeside Rods (61 IMPALA DASH) inner fenders etc. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK what trans are you using? thanks, Greg www.extremepowdercoating.net |

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
Trimmed up the tank today and stuffed it in. I have to pick up some bolt clip thingys tomorrow and bolt it down. Not a bad fit though, the tank is massive.

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
Is there a reason you have it turned around vs. how it's "supposed" to be installed?

Nothing is how it's "supposed to be" on this truck. Fits better.

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
Very nice Delmo! Do you plan on putting any kind of bed floor in? I see your bed is bolted directly to the bed cross sills did you body drop the truck or do you have a 3/4 inch spacer to make the bed sit even with the cab? Keep up the progress and pics!

Re: My 65 Pickemup project
Good eye man, ya there is a spacer for the front of the bed. I was going to drop it the amount of the front rad support pad but got too lazy to cut the rear box mount. I still might do it if I don't like the height. Definatley puttin wood back in it, the 90 degree fitting for the rear bag sits up about 1/2 an inch from the kick so I guess that will be the lowest point for the bed wood. I have a cool idea for the wood, can't wait to do it.
