I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Re: 55 2nd series

We'll the wife hosted a baby shower and i was able to sneak out to the garage and get some work done before I ran out of gas for welding. I really need to buy a back up tank. Here is the cab corner mocked up.

Re: 55 2nd series

Looking good, I don't usually like to cut that much metal out. But like you my cab corners were rotten pretty far up the cab. I measured everything 3 or 4 times and after cutting the cab I still had to cut up the new cab corner to make it fit and align up the doors. The only question I have for you is do you have the doors hung and able to shut them and make sure everything lines up? I have seen people make the mistake of not closing the doors to make sure the door gaps are good and have had to cut them back out and do it all over again.

I did't want to do that but the PO did not do a good job putting on the old ones so I had to go that high

Re: 55 2nd series

I know the feeling must of what I have done to the truck so far is undoing what the PO has done. My truck has spent most of it's life in Ohio so the cab corners where pretty bad and the PO hid a lot of it in Bondo so I didn't know how bad. They look good nice job on the repairs so far.

Re: 55 2nd series

My truck was from TX but the PO was a retired autobody guy. I hope that he did not do to others cars what he had done to this truck there was bondo every where and they filled big holes with it so i ended up sand blasting the whole cab

What you mean all retired autobody guys didn't just fill everything with a good coat of bondo???? All joking aside the guy I bought mine from was a retired Snap on tool sales man and had more tools then one man would ever need. He was restoring a 63 Vette when I picked up my truck. He also had an all original 51 chevy truck, and the work he was doing on the vette looked awesome. He told me he bought it as a father son project and the kid never got into it so he was selling it. It was a hack job the things they did, I learned my lesson never trust other projects the guys is working on when buying from someone. I wanted a 54 5 window and they are not easy to come by in Ohio so I bought it. The only question I have for you is do you have the doors hung and able to shut them and make sure everything lines up? I have seen people make the mistake of not closing the doors to make sure the door gaps are good and have had to cut them back out and do it all over again.

I have a portalable heater it the garage. It works ok it takes the chill out. I want to insulate and put in a real heater but I want to move to a place with a bigger garage so I may hold off on that unless I can get a good deal.

Re: 55 2nd series

i have never run out of gas
welded 90% of my truk with a lincoln weldpac 100, 110v fluxcore welder.

i figure i grind all my welds anyway, might as well use fluxcore.
truk sheet metal was easy, but the 28 ga metal on the trunk was a beotch...

for heat, i found this propane house furnace off craigslist and have a 100 gal tank out front of the barn.

Re: 55 2nd series

I really want a heater for my garage but winter is almost over now and i just think $ for a heater or a part for the truck plus there is no insulation in there either. Plus with the plan to move I figure that I'll wait til then and get on then. My next place is going to have a pole barn so I can have all the cars want in there. Luckily there has not been a lot of snow this year so i have been able to keep working in the garage. I made a deal with the wife she gets her spot back in the winter but she said as long as it does not snow more then 1/2 an inch she will let me keep her car out of the garage.

Re: 55 2nd series

Jimig1, Yeah this winter has been great for working in the garage. (From Mn too!) I do body work for a living and my boss lets me bring in loose parts to work on over lunch and after work. So far at work I've done the body work on both rear fenders, both doors and some sand blasting of misc parts. Front fenders are next. I've done the cab floor and firewall at home. My boss has volunteered to help me mount the cab at work when I'm ready(S10 swap). This arrangement has saved me alot of time!

Yeah this winter has been great (at least if your not in the plow business). That must be nice to have a shop to go to.

Re: 55 2nd series

Well I got some help from my dad he drove up on Friday evening and Saturday morning he helped me get some work done. Found out Saturday evening that he was there for my surprise birthday party. But this is what we got done. I missing a pic of the rear shock mount that we moved and we also centered up the rear end. This is the first time I have seen her with fenders.
