My 68 was built and sold in California with a 396 and it was all original when I got it. It had no smog pump, brackets, or holes in the exhaust manifolds for air injectors.

Mike, From looking at the spec sheet I have on 68's, only 1/2 ton's had the smog pumps. 3/4 and up did not.

The guy I bought my GMC "Longhorn" from says the rear end in this truck is a very rare option (Dana unit with 4:10 gears); I'll be honest I don't know how rare that is but the option code on glovebox door is G87 Maximum Traction Rear Axle?

Hmm, I have the same diff, the guy I bought my truck from said the rear end is a 1 ton. I am assuming that the diff was changed out at sometime during its life for what ever reason. All I know is that my speedo is out bigtime.

I dont know about rare. Ive got one . Mines not in 4.10 though although better than 90% of dana 60's have the 4.10 gearing. The maximum traction deal would be the powrlock positraction. Ive always wondered why some 3/4 tons got danas and most got Eatons. A lot of people swear the eaton is stronger but I think the Dana is .

I've never seen a dana from these years that had factory duallies. Anyone seen such an animal. Eatons all day long...but a Dana? Sure, anytime as of 73 but 67-72?. Rod

Im not sure what regular 4:10 rear end Danas that come with these trucks would look like, but the drums on mine don't look like your average brake drum. It is supposed to be full floating too.

Oh I thought of another ultimate rareity.

All the Dana 60's these trucks come with are full floating. One ton brakes are heavier but they are with eatons too.

Smog Pumps who wants smog pumps,i have them from 68-72s brackets and pulleys for them to.I removed them from 6cyl trucks V8 trucks last one i pulled was from my California bought 68 GMC 3/4 ton Burb 396t400 rig,I had a 72 theat had luggage rack that came off the 2nd day i had it and went into the dumpster,i took it to 2 swapmeets nobody would take it.i think it made it look like a old mans truck.thing i have and have had. Cruise,Tilts,Tachs,Buckets,Vacuum Gauges,Compass,Speedwarning,Tissue/Litter Container,Ventshades,Am/Fm,8 track player,Spotlight,Door Edge Guards,Bumper Guards,Extendable Bumper(came off a Camper special-i think it was dealer or factory?,shoulder harness, burb luggage rack, barn doors,3rd seats, under hood compressor(it sayed GM on it,but not sure if it was actual truck thing?,oh god ive had a few i still have alot of these alot are NOS i tried to collect all the rarities new in the box,as a investment without the intention to keep.i dont give a crap about a am/fm i listen to CDs,8track i think i have a old Kiss one that was under seat of a car i parted, tissue dispenser i have a emergency roll of tp in glove box,ventshades-it dont rain here, bumper guards(id rather bend the bumper, spolight they look like crap on a truck im not a cop, extendable bumper,i dont need a diving board, shoulder harnesses-why the hell would i want them in,anytime i ride in a new car i put the shoulder part behing me so it dont rub my neck, compass i know which way is NESW,barn doors suck, ever have a long board and drive with barn doors open?cruise my foot is strong enough to push pedal. Now that ive knocked all the options yes they are nice conversation pieces and if i had a trailer queen id probably load the truck up.but for something to drive i think PS,PB,AC and a tilt is necessary.and a tach and buckets are a must.and of course a big block and a posi is another must have.

BTW, I was looking at the Classic industries catalog the other night. They have a complete reproduction smog set up for the 68- up chevy small block for like $1500 or more. I'd hang on to those "Old man" parts.

If you want smog pumps i must have atleast 10 or so,and even more of the pulleys and brackets.and some manifolds.I remove the stuff i dont like clutter under the hood that in my opinion is useless.we dont have emissions or anything,if we did id put it on,go get inspected come home take it off.Ive had all those pumps at swapmeets too many times for a make offer deal, and its yours one has never left, except ones with big block brackets for some guy redoing a resto on a chevelle.im suprised i havent pulled all the brackets and threw them in the dumpster, guess ive been waiting for someone who needs one,and would be happy if i gave them one.

never said i was throwing half the options in the dumpster.smog pumps yes,but they arent really a option,a roof rack went.after a couple swapmeets and nobody will take for free, theres no reason to keep it.you can call me for options if you like, all are for sale and will make it on ebay if i ever grab pictures of the stuff.

I do not think so. Ran a check at local chevy dealer on their parts computer and he said "...If you find one in the boneyard pick it up." Interestingly, his software did not show any replacement purchases for 67-72s sliders in last eleven years. My insurance agent also agrees about unusualness. He said replacements before 1980 fell below the 4% level.

Well around here it is about a 50/50 mixed of sliders compared to solid windows. But then again some of those sliders could be aftermarket. Im not too sure if the trucks would come from the factory with a slider or if it was install at the dealer level. Has anyone ever recall seeing rear slider written on an option sheet?

Now if you were talking about a 67 slider then that would be rare.

Are green tinted windshield and green tinted side vents unusual?
