Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
I took the rest of the stuff off and out of the dash and off the firewall so i could blast and then prime the firewall dash and the windshield frame. All looked pretty good.

Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
The PO as I said before had not taken very good care of this truck. There was a hole dented into the side just behind the drivers side door, and a hole for the trim as well. i was just going to weld it up but I had the original door skin left from the drivers side door so i cut a patch out of it and put it in place of the damaged parts.

Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
I had already used the stud welder to pull all the long dents down the side of the drivers side so i sanded it all down to bare metal did some body work and then e-primed and high build primed it. this is after some block sanding.

Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
I also finally got the back bumper to release. PO had built and welded a bumper to the frame. I think i want a chrome one to match the front so I cut it off. WOW what a chore. I liked the bumper because it had a receiver welded into it so i could tow stuff but it was not the best looking thing. If i dont get a chrome one right away I marked where the frame holes were so i could put some holes in the mounts and bolt it up instead of welding it.

Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
I also lifted the body off the frame, pulled it up to the front garage and then put the other frame I found off of a farm and put it under the body. This will be better as the other frame does not have anything in it and will allow access to the underside, and front (no engine in the way) also it can roll around easily. I am going to try and paint in the front garage and have to take it around an entire block to get there, so the wheels and tires on the back will help for stabilization.

I got some parts in the other day as well. This is one of them. It was just the bezel and i took the best parts out of several others I had to make one good one.

Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
I had taken some of the body mounts loose to work on the body work on the passenger side and drove it around a bit before i took it apart so much i could not drive it. I found out what was banging so loudly. A frame mount had been broken off the frame. Ill just cut the rivits off of the other frame and bolt it to this one.

Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
I decided to do some internal frame coating from Eastwood. I ordered their gun as well, because it had the long extention tubes.
You can see that it ran out of the rocker panel after and during the spraying. |

Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
The nozzle with all the holes is the one I used. I was pleased with it. thought it would just spray out streams of the stuff but it sprayed in a mist. Very good coverage, i hope!!

Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
I coated the rockers and the windshield frame. It leaves a waxy substance after about a few hours, and I dont know what it will do after it dries. Hopefully I will remember to update as to what it does

Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
Then yesterday I did the body work and primed the fenders and the wheel houses. Epoxy prime and then high build.
Also made a tow bar type thing that bolts to the radiator mounting positions and rests on the first cross member and allows for towing the frame around. I needed this because there are no front springs due to some one stealing them from the alley... lovely!!. |

Its called luxo blue, zenon blue or heritage blue. I found it on a 2013 GMC Z71 truck at the dealership.

Re: 72Jimmy 1st attempt at rust removal
Yes I like this color much better. More Dimension than the single stage blue I had picked before. Dont know what color to paint the top. I like white but my wife says it makes it look like old truck. Possibly black or the blue. I just think the dark color on the top will make it really hot in the summer... Barry
