Re: 1966 c50 soon to be a longbed
not yet i just finished up painting a buddies suzuki sidekick that he pulls behind his motorhome, in return he has a metal fab shop and plenty of materials im going to use to start my frame, using the astro subframe up front already hs disc brakes and powersteering and hydroboost for brakes, also using the rear end out of the van so i have matching big 5 lug, going to build an underslung frame setup, for the body im going to build a bed raise it 3-4 inches and move the fenders up and fill in at the bottom, also going to find 2 more fenders and make them rap around and tuck into the shaved rearend of the bed, and the wheels in pic were just for reference i want to run a set of coys or torque thrusts 22s or 24s

Re: 1966 c50 soon to be a longbed
also im going to sheetmetal the bedfloor and airbrush wood strips, im going to rn some mini tubs and have the whole floor hing like a bed cover so u can see the frame work underneath and have access to the fuel cell, probably overlap the min wheel tub so part will stay down and the rest will be attached to the floor and raise up with it

Re: 1966 c50 soon to be a longbed
Just looking at that long step. It would be pretty cool to widen a long step bed to fit the C50 width. Then maybe shave the front fender wheelwell flares on the C50 front end. It would make a very clean side profile. You could even get crazy and make the bed sides taller to make it flow better and look like it was made that way from the factory, kinda like a Kodiak Stepper conversion.

Re: 1966 c50 soon to be a longbed
the cabover would actually be alittle shorter cause the pic i found was a excab truck and i liked the stance, so the actual build would be without the second window and door

Re: 1966 c50 soon to be a longbed
Neat concepts being tossed about here. I saw the blue duallie photos (see below) on the C10 Forum and thought of this thread, looks like this guy used Ford stepside fenders.
I always thought making a 60-66 dually bed using 57-67 stepside fenders would look good, but after seeing one in person last year the lines just don't flow, IMO. Another way to go would be something along the lines of the last photo below. If I had seen the photo before I started the modifications on my '65 I would have taken a stab at it. The idea of widening a stock stepside is a good one. I widened mine 4 inches, wasn't that tough to do. Last edited by lakeroadster; 06-05-2011 at 07:01 PM. |

Re: 1966 c50 soon to be a longbed
I'd love to see a picture of this whole truck. It looks like wheel wells were filled on that panel body. It's pretty cool lookin.

Re: 1966 c50 soon to be a longbed
Looks like we're gonna need a big trucks section after all! Flatbed, duallybed, panel- any way you do this truck it's gonna rock.
The COE panels/subs are just mind blowing- especially that older PSed one.
