And here are the seats and console. Used the exterior paint on the console, since that's what the old color sheet actually said.

Random front end shot. A little blurry, but should give you the general idea.

Front corner shot. To everyone on that other thread that can completely restore a truck for $10K, you haven't had to rechrome a GMC!

And here's a picture of the super-laser-powered-air-cooled-ultra-bright LED that I had to make up a mounting system for, only to find out the old 1157NA looks better, so I ripped it out and went back to stock.

Wow... I keep thinking to myself there's no way this truck could get any nicer and you keep proving wrong brother. This truck with that color combo will be an absolute stunner at any show. Forget the other trucks because you'll be making the 6 figure camaros and bel airs look bad.. amazing work just absolutely amazing.

I did a frame off last year. It's expensive and I did most of the work myself. Any body that says they can do a "restore" for under 10K.

Whoa, that chrome on everything looks absolutely amazing!!! Very nice. Yeah, the $10 grand may be if you stole a finished truck and added stuff to it.

Yeh, or how about some finished outside pictures ? It would be nice seeing the paint and chrome shine in the sun. Thanks |

Re: Dave's 1970 GMC 402 Longhorn
Well, it won't see sunlight for a few more months, that's for sure. Just completed finishing up my bed wood (Mar-K). One board arrived damaged and they took great care of it. Sadly the stupid bed strips I ordered from LMC 6 months ago have a subtle kink in the middle of each :-( I opened the box on delivery and the ends checked out fine, but there really wasn't time to make the delivery guy wait while I removed the giant condom from each strip to check them. I think I'd prefer chromed steel anyway, I have a feeling polished stainless will be hard to maintain... we shall see.
I used Spar Marine Semi-Gloss carnish (92504) from "Old Masters". About four coats, a sanding, two more coats. At some point I should write a post about my experience doing the wood, from the saw-horse thing I made to hold the wood to the various lessons I learned. For now, however, installing the wood is the challenge of the week!

Re: Dave's 1970 GMC 402 Longhorn
The bed wood looks awesome! I kinda dig stainless look anywhere I can use it on my truck. I like chrome too but most of the aftermarket stuff leaves some for desire.

Re: Dave's 1970 GMC 402 Longhorn
Well, other than being short all the extra fasteners you need for a Longhorn, it's in and mostly done. I'd ordered the "upgrade" for the extras, but don't think I got them.
Anyway, what a labor intensive job. I'm sure the factory did it on a jig of some kind to make life easier, but even so, there's a lot of fasteners and alignment going on.

Wow that wood bed looks bad ass. What stain did you use, I was going to leave mine natural but after seeing yours I have changed my mind. Super good job...

Re: Dave's 1970 GMC 402 Longhorn
The stain is "Varathane Golden Mahogany" from Home Depot. Make sure you shake the hell out of it. The first coat was way 'oranger' than the second, which I guess I stirred better.
I considered matching it to the exterior fake wood trim on the truck, but that's a really dark color. Might not have been a bad idea, but I'm happy with this color and it doesn't clash too badly.

Here's a shot of one of the mirrors installed. I opted to keep the big Sr mirrors but had them stripped and chromed to reduce their "visual mass".

Here are the brake lines I fab'd up, since no one seems to offer a proper set for a 3/4 ton 1970.

Here's my gap cap. How existing is a gas cap? Not very, but mine was used for 40 years and was rough, but I managed to polish it all out pretty nicely.
