I then took the slug and placed it into the plate to complete the circle.

I had to round out the hole in the firewall a little larger to make the large nut fit through on the back of the plate. I also had to drill 2 holes into the plate to make the bottom 2 studs fit. But it's in and works great!

Now to hook up my lines. Thanks to my local Parker store for making me some lines that adapt from the standard fittings on my power steering pump and steering hear to the metric fittings on the booster.

Have you run into any Standard/Metric thread match problems on the plumbing yet?

Looks like he conquered the standard to metric problem to me. Project looks awesome!

At least you knew such a problem existed. I didn't know until I read his remedy.

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

Last week my truck went through a metamorphosis! With the help of some good friends we decided to get it ready for our local LCBC car show. So a few late nights later and a ton of work we got her drivable. And by late nights I mean the 4am kind. It was kind of surreal to drive it to the show Saturday morning. I can hardly believe we made it this far. I still need to do a lot of things to make it "street legal" but it drove to the show on it's own power!

Here she is. Let me know what you think!

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

I ran into the same problem on my 71 c30 in reverse, I used a serpentine setup from a 98 blazer which had a metric end on the pump. Found fitting in pumps are interchangeable, swapped fitting from old pump to new pump cost $0. works great, didn't have to remake any lines.

I could use a Custom 30 emblem if you are not going to use them.

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

On a post from a while ago you said you used 77 3/4 ton 4x4 front rotors, did you use the same 1977 calipers and bracket, if yes what did you do as far as the bracket adapters? Thanks in advance.

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

Hi guys,

Long time no update! Sorry about that! This is due mostly because I decided to take a different direction with this build. And I've been focusing on helping finish a few of my friends trucks.

A couple weeks ago I took an unplanned road-trip to Indiana and bought a 1946 chevy 1.5 ton body to swap onto this frame. We had no tools so my buddy English and I stopped at Sears and bought a tool set he's been eying up, and I got a grinder and a sawsall. Then spent the next few hours taking the cab and front end off of this beast in a field. We had some challenges but we got it done. No thanks to the sawsall spitting it's blade out every 2 seconds... Total Crap! We loaded it into our trailer and headed home. We almost made it when English's f150 left us sit 25 miles from home at 2am on the turnpike. (Insert ford jokes here). All kidding aside though it was a great trip and I can't wait to get started on the swap.

I do love the '71 body but I fell in love with the '46 and it's almost 70 years of patina. Now to find an IFS that is narrow enough to tuck my Alcoas and strong enough to tow!

Before the mayhem

Damn cab mount bolts!

Somewhere in Ohio stopped for gas.

A quick photoshop rendering of the '46 on the '71 frame, and my inspiration for the build!

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

Your photoshop looks good,... but you're going to have to narrow the front track width a bunch to tuck those wheels under those front fenders.
Loved the 67-72 version,...

Re: 71 C30 dually restoration

i think you get a lot of info from 1963impala2dr on you tube
he doing about te same cab swap on a square body frame
hes only changing it from a heavy truck to a pickup style radrod
https://www.youtube.com/user/1963imp...f_id=0&sort=dd

realy do like those cabs as well , theres a guy on the tenesee truck forum that found a real good one thats been sitting inside a barn for quite a few years
hes allso converting it intoo a radrod , took the front fenders of , z-ed the frame in the rear and dropped the beam front suspension
if i was doing one it might've been a little more gleam and shine in the paint department

there's another thing i'm considering , those super single rims are 14 inches wide
i was wondering if i would machine them down to 22 inch is theres a wide low profile tire that fit
sofar i only found off road tires that might fit them , the 22 inch mickey thompsons seem to require a 16 inch rim
i think those supers would look even better with the superwide lower profile tires and the 22 inch truckrims in the front

i'm planning on running a fleetside bed and the stock super single tires would stick out over the top of it

i got a job again and having fun at it too

idea's for the trucks and the order of things to do are taking shape and get closer to being realized , a few more months and i be able to start building for real

i complete 2 of the trucks intoo running fashion one custom and one basicly stock the thirth will be sacrificed for parts
