Re: My first C10 build, can't wait.

Got a couple coats of Epoxy primer on the bare metal last night. It is gonna rain in the next couple days and I couldn' afford to let it sit any longer.

Have you flap disked the welds on the bedside yet, I was hoping to see the bare metal after you leveled it out.

I have not touched the bedsides yet. I may get around to them again this weekend. I will post some pics afterwards. I don't know how much bare metal there will be considering the previous body person used a gallon of filler on the bedsides.

(Sigh) I wish it was illegal for idiots to breed, then we wouldn't have to deal with things like that.
The only thing you have to decide is what is worth more to you, your time or your money because they will likely take a whole lot of time to fix.

Re: My first C10 build, can't wait.

I spent Friday night fixing rust inside the rear window sill. I dont have any completed pics yet, forgot to take them. But here is what I had to repair. That is a lot of welding for what you get out of it. I will get some pictures of the completed stuff tonight.

Re: My first C10 build, can't wait.

GOOOOOD NEWS. I just got confirmation from Dave at Porterbuilt that my extreme front and rear goods should be shipped out this week. A long time coming. I can't wait until they get here. I should have lots of updates then.

The next thing to repair. Hopefully one of the last things I have to repair related to rust.

Yikes talk about a tragic attempt at repairing the cab corner, who ever did that should never be allowed to do body work again, ever...

Ummm you can't even see how warped and how much filler I had to grind away. I was going to attempt to repair the hole but I figure it is just as much welding to replace the entire thing.

Re: My first C10 build, can't wait.

Yeah I'm realizing just how tragic the bodywork really was, it's like a greek tragedy, but hey you are doing it right and when you get done you will have a really great solid truck you can be proud of and I'm enjoying watching the build.

Thanks Brian. Well it should get exciting next week because I should get some suspension parts. I can't wait.

Re: My first C10 build, can't wait.

Spent the weekend welding up the firewall. I shaved all the holes and the wire channel. I don't know how I want to go about shaving the fuse block side. Should I cut out the entire side, the protrusion and all or just shave the holes?

Finally started laying down some filler. It finally feels like some progress.

This is a personal preference thing, for me the factory unsmoothed firewall isn't a big deal but for some others it really bothers them, I would just plug all the holes I'm not going to use and call it good but that's just me.
Keep in mind there is alot of stuff covering up that side of the firewall so you won't really see much of it, also that protrusion is your parking brake mounting location so you can't eliminate it or the parking brake assembly won't fit correctly at the dash support without a modification to the parking brake assembly.

Re: My first C10 build, can't wait.

I finished shaving the firwall completely. I decided to take the e-brake hump out and shave the entire right side. I think it looks good. I will get an aftermarket e-brake if i decide to put one on. I also fixed the rocker panel too. The only rust I have left to fix now is on the inside of the cab on the interior roofline by the mirror and visors (that should be fun).

Very good progress on the body work. Nice job fixing that window frame and on the firewall. I know how time consuming this stuff can be. Snap a before pic and an after pic and it looks so easy anyone could do it..... Keep up the good work.

Re: My first C10 build, can't wait.

Hey man I don't want to mess with your plan here or tell you how to ride your horse, but you shouldn't accept that cab corner the way it is.
The entire thing needs to be cut out and replaced because the P.O. didn't butt weld in the patch panel.
I know it is extra work but cab corners are cheap and the results will be worth it.
Tabco makes the best fitting patch panels on the market.

Re: My first C10 build, can't wait.

I know I'm still debating on whether to cut t out or not. Still pondering it. No offense taken here at all. I will probably cut it out though. When I really look at it again and realize how crappy it really is. We will see.

Thanks Mike. It definately is a lot harder and more time consuming than a couple before and after pics haha.

Re: My first C10 build, can't wait.

As everyone says Christmas came early. I didn't know santa's real name was Nate Porter. Lol. I wanted to state how good the quality of these parts really are. The welds are perfect.

Looks like I know what I'm doing this weekend.
