The trick with these LS engines is the small 3mm ring packs they use to reduce weight and friction. The 364 uses the same 4" bore as the old gen 1 350, it just has a little more stroke. The 346 LS1 in my wifes camaro utilizes a smaller bore (3.9") but uses the same stroke crank as my 6.0.

Really odd how GM has changed things around from what most of us gear heads are used to.

I drive my 81 Dually 3+3 GMC 3500, 454/t400 unknown gears here run at the moment solely on gas (propane), propane tank is 60 gallons and I get roughly 385 miles or so to a tank at roughly $2.83US/gallon which if I've worked it out right is around 6.42mpg? Propane burns at roughly double the rate of petrol though so would be around 13mpg I'm guessing on petrol, although our petrol here is $5.74US/gallon so it's cheaper to run the truck on propane at this point.

I own squares, 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton, 1988 Chevy Crew Cab and a 1991 Chevy Suburban. Had a 2000 Chevy 3/4 ton, fully loaded (worthless pile of junk sold in 2005 for $2500 to get RID of it), and a still have a 1996 Chevy Tahoe(205,000 miles), fully loaded, but prefer my squares, (so do the kids). Easy to work on, fix and maintain. Buy AND own, same day. These things go anywhere and haul anything! Tahoe sits at home while the squares take us everywhere, I'm never buying anything newer, plus they are iconic!

Well many have said there piece, old is cooler and more fun to drive but poor mileage and not as comfy, hard to have the big price to pay on the new one though. Love old steel, just has personality.

Switch back and forth between the 87 SWB and the 05 CCSB, both half ton. The 87 is a great bomb around truck. The 05 has OD and AC. So, the right tool for the job when needed.

I drive my toyota celica daily, but take my k10 out on weekends and work once a week. Im getting under 10mpg, but it totally beats payments on a newer silverado (especially an LTZ). If youre worried about comfort, put in a different seat. The old guy who I bought my k10 from installed a seat out of a freightliner, its by far the comfiest bench seat I have ever sat in! Driving it 330 miles to college next month and am not worried about comfort whatsoever.

i drive my 86 silverado daily whether to bank galveston porter crossby race track gym which is daily and to friends house which is every day basically lol in houston..only thing that went wrong with my truck is the HORRIBLE mpg, my fuel pump went out, headlights were very very very dim, new brakes make a world of a difference!! pretty much it lol

I been running the 82 6.2 since mid Oct.last year.It costs about $25-30/day for diesel putting on around 130-150km.Lots of stop & go driving,some wells are less than 5 minutes apart & 90% gravel roads.I drive like an old man,but the fuel costs reflect that too.Like I said in earlier posts,I drive these trucks cause I want to,not because I have too.

Been watching the mileage pretty close since last Oct as well,all winter pretty much averaged 15mpg. Last month or so around 20. This is imperial gallons....

My 1 ton with a 480hp big block still gets around 10-12 mpg so sure you will do a lot better than that and nice to drive something that is different than all the new stuff, not as many squares left anymore. Registered my 81 as a classic now.

I daily drive my 85 c10. I traded my v6 vert mustang that had ac and 25mpg. Its almost a hour ride but I smile most of the way. 305 and it gets around 12mpg. I need to swap in a overdrive auto.

I've been driving my 1984 C30 every day since I got it back in 2008. Yeah it gets around 10 or 11MPG, but the truck is paid for and it helps me make money now that I've got it rigged out so it's all good! It's actually the only vehicle I have that's roadworthy right now so I take darn good care of it.

Our 78 has 289,000 on the clock and my wife drives it as her first choice.
Same engine but it has had the outside parts replaced, water pump fuel pump etc.
The MPG has been the same since I bought it in 79, 10, she will get 11 MPG,

I am concerned with the tires for all the vehicles that do not get many miles but they all look good but are getting over the time limit.

In the past 5 years I've used either my 77 K10 or 72 C10 as a daily driver. Currently driving the K10. It's most definitely a gas hog but I can still afford to drive...and I never thought about how I save by not having a car payment. IMO there's a ton of reasons you can't argue that an old Chevy truck makes a great d.d

my 85 is a dd. I love it and wouldn't want to drive anything else. My AC went out for a month and got a little hot but besides that I love it. Parts are cheap and plentiful and easy to fix.
