Yes, we're gonna Z the shifter like a 55 Chevy bench seat shifter. Up a bit and forward a bit.

I think you may have a 68 up cab though I would seriously check the title to the frame and the cab vin on the drivers door and then check the glove box spid label.
This looks to be a 68 up cab.... looking great and have fun either way! Kev...

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
One thing pics can't catch is the feel of something, for instance the feel of the brake pedal. This feeling I would describe as using immense force against an immovable object. The expected result of such pressure would be a decrease in forward momentum. Not so with this elaborate setup.
Upon inspection, we discovered that a power brake master cylinder was being used without the benefit of a booster. This nice little jewel remedied that. Cross that one off the list...

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
All 1967 Chevy Cabs have the smaller key area, the one you have pictured has the larger one and also it even has the on/acc/off label still about the key area which tells me this would be a later cab as there no orginial 67 with the on/acc/off plastic label above the key switch on the dash.... Now some one might have switched out the dash but it will either be cut under the dash pad or by the lower lip of the window and most would cut out a dash due to the orginial a/c up grade.....
Just trying to help.... Mine also had a right 68 up wing window! Quote:

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
Sorry just noticed one other fine point,
It also has 5 lugs and all orginial 67's had 6 lugs....but the 5 on 5 lug is what I have switched mine to by buying moser axels and drop spindles by Mcgaughys.... Quote:

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
Also I just checked out the firewall by the brake booster it appears to be the later 71-72 firewall to...... The cab has been switched out I'de hate to be the bearer of bad news but have fun with it either way! Here is a picture of my 67 cab and its firewall you can see the difference there is no foot brake provision as the parking brake is mounted under the steering column and it is hand operated...

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
I'm not hijacking your thread I made my own thread and no I though I was reading a 67 truck build with a 71 or 72 cab build and said wait a min I might wanna help this person out and tell them what they had bought as the po might have lied to you about it. But since you know it is a later model cab and not a 67 cab, God Bless and have fun with it! It's just a fellow board person trying to be helpful, as I have seen people get the screws put to them buying stuff and paying for services as I have myself before I learned..... But either way didn't mean to affend or steal your thread.....
Peace bro! Ltr.... QUOTE=DesertCat;5970933]Thanks for hijacking my thread and questioning my intelligence as well as the legality of what I own.[/QUOTE]

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
Okay so our driveshaft which was probably made by "undocumented migrants" for a vehicle of an undisclosed make, model, and vintage needs some enhancement. guess it's not as young as it used to be
This is of course a result of moving the engine back to the forward position. The Muncie is the same length as the TH350 (RIP)

Work started on the Z of the shifter using 1/8" flat stock on either side. Looks good to me so far!

Steely Eyed Shawno has most certainly noticed the continued use of the stock crossmember (although some here will question whether it's a 67 or not ) but fear not, the PB piece has been painted and is waiting.

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
Great updates! Front end is looking clean... I'm having similar issues with the shifter but without the high-hump. Just barely hits the seat in 2nd/4th.

Did you need to get more clearance for the trans? I was looking at mine and from my perspective it didn't look like I had to. I wasn't sure if I really wanted a high hump but we went with it. You've been moving right along too!

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
The trans hit the pinch weld in the tunnel where the firewall and floor join. Also the top of the trans just contacted the floor where the tail housing joins to the case. I screwed around with the engine stands and mounts and that was really the best I could come up with without a bunch of fab. I'll stitch the floor back up with a few little filler pieces. I'll also Z the shifter just to offset it forward about an inch. These Muncie's are gonna be cool huh!

Dropped some Pesos today getting a new driveshaft built. Due to the length we stepped up the diameter of the tube. Big difference.

I gave him the concept and he came up with this:

Re: Devastation and Reform - abused, beaten, and botched yet unrefined 67 SWB
Well the shifter modification is done, the hole has been cut. A much, much smaller hole then I had imagined.
Erring on the side of caution, I had already ordered a Super Boot. This thing is huge! It could easily double as a carport. Ah well, let's see how it looks...

Hey look the drive shaft has a proper gap! LOL that still kills me, the P.O was an idiot man, he is one of those people that ruins everything he touches.
The shifter looks great, I like that oversized boot because it says I am Truck hear me roar haha. Your son is working his butt off, doing a real good job, I think you will have to praise him up one side and down the other for all his hard work. |

I think the shift boot will be fine especially once the seat is in. We did find a difference we weren't expecting when we swapped from the narrow rear to the five lug. The early u-joints used u-bolts vs. caps and bolts. The first pic he sent me asking how this is supposed to work
