Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Originally I made the cardboard cut out for moving centerline 1 " forward. But later decided to go 1 1/2" so that's why there is a half inch gap in front of cab mount. And it worked out because that's where I welded earlier anyways.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Great build,I used the same approach fitting the Camaro clip aswell from the HAMB , works great.I think it drops the truck about 7 inches from stock and the Camaro suspension is still at oem ride height.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Thanks! It seems like a dumb proof way to do it. I am looking forward to welding it all up. How far did you move your centerline forward?

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
I moved the centerline forward about the same as you. Test fit your cab and front clip, with the radiator support bolted in between the fenders, the radiator support will just miss the steering box if its on the money.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Thanks. That's the plan I'm shooting for right now. I hope to get some work done on it this weekend.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
I have gotten the camaro clip all lined up and frame trimmed for final fitment. I have measured this thing so much I prob have them all memorized!

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
I made sure to use weld through primer in the areas where I will never see again after welding. Top of camaro frame and bottom of truck frame.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Thanks Chuck!! Hopefully I can finish up the welding by tomorrow. So happy it's going to be a rolling chassis again.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
The welding never ends!! There is a substantial amount of linear ft of weld with this swap! I have no doubt this thing will hold up. And boxing plates after this seem like overkill almost but what the heck, why not...
-----Q: did everyone just box the frame all the way back to that first crossmember?

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Since I ran out of wire for the welder, me and my three year old tore apart the camaro front end tonight. And last night ordered the whole front super whatever kit from p-s-t.com. They had a great deal going, saved $60 off the kit. Ended up being $330 for everything. Ball joints, control arm bushings all tie rod ends, idler arm, bump stops, sway bar bushings and endlinks, control arm shafts, and adjustment sleeves. Couldn't find a better deal anywhere else and this was for the really good polygraphite bushings.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Looks great, thats a sweet deal on the rebuild parts for the clip.
In my opinion theres no need to box the frame putting the clip in this way.If you think about the 4 bolts holding the subframe onto the bottom of a Camaro, the welding will be a much stronger attachment. If your going with an underfloor mounted brake booster and pedal setup the boxing plates will screw up the mounting location. |

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck
Thanks guys. I'm going with a firewall mount brake booster from the camaro so I will prob just add some boxing plates to clean it up a bit. I got some parts sandblasted and painted last night. Going with the hammered finish silver/grey for the frame and some suspension parts.
