Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build
Mike when I got done stripping mine it looked just like yours. I didn't get it perfect but close as I could to clean. I finished off cleaning with 36 grit roloc disc on a right angle die grinder. Then I primered it put down the seam sealer and then shot it with 3M undercoating.

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build
Now that's the look I'm going for! Right down to bare metal. Well I happen to have a whole bag of 36 grit roloc disc's. What primer did you use? Did you use brushable seam sealer?

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build
Thank you for posting the pictures. I think I'm going to try Chassis Saver on the underside of the cab since I already have a can and then go over that with the 3m undercoating.

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build
Got the frame back in the garage and remembered why I took it out in the first place. Man I need a bigger garage! LOL I think the main focus now is to get the frame cleaned up and painted were the cab sits so that I can set the cab back on then I'll tackle the front and back sections along with the suspension. First though I need to replace the rotted out rear cab mounts on the frame.

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build
Thanks! There is also a TCI banner below the Edelbrock but the hood is blocking it. I have a few more banners along with some Neon signs but don't have the wall space in the garage! LOL

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build
Some progress...Got the new rear cab mounts on the frame. The drivers side front cab mount needed some work so I cut out the bad and welded in a new section. Pass side is perfect thankfully. Wire brushed the center section of the frame and put on some Chassis Saver and then top coated with Martin Senior Chassis Black from NAPA. Came out pretty nice I think. Mounted up the cab and fitted up the doors. They fit pretty good!!

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build
Since I got the cab on the frame and the doors on I couldn't resist the temptation to mock up the front body panels so that's what I did this weekend. I'm happy to see it finally look like a truck again but now I see I'm in for a ton more work. None of the panels fit good. The door to fender gap is beautiful on the pass side and the drivers side is pretty good. Hardly any of the bolt holes line up between the inner and outer fenders but the pass side is the worst. There is a gap between the inner fenders and the radiator core support. Kinda bummed but I'm sure I can work through it.

Re: Mike's 66 C10 Short Step Build
Got the truck out in the sun today and started working through all the fitment issues with the repop body panels. Feeling a little better about it although I think I'm going to try and find another pass side inner fender. May try a different company. I'd like to get all the panels fitting good so I can get the firewall painted and not have to damage the paint taking panels off and on.
