Nice, BTW Mark will be at my house tomorrow. We are helping each other out. He needs a couple parts I have. And I need a couple parts he has. So we are swapping. All trades no cash lol. Pretty awesome to meet people through here and around the area thays into the same stuff.
Im kinda boycotting The Shack, I choose Johnnys over them or Crawfish King.
Back when the shack opened my whole family was diehard customers. Until the owners wife flat out lied to us one day at the door. See families would buy happy meals for the small kids and stuff. Go to there and eat crawfish. So once they decided to do food for kids there. They was stopping everyone at the door saying they cant let the kids in with food from other facilities because of the health inspector. Well long storie short. We called the health inspector and was informed this was false. I understand it is a bussiness and they wanted to get the sales for kids meals as well. However why not just let it go? It would eventually go to buying the kids food there without a big lie. Simply because of the inconvenience of stopping at another location. This caused a sense of dishonesty and greed. So we dont support them anylonger.
And in defense of the shack. There crawfish was very good. And by the looks of the place now. They are doing very well without us.

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed

Today I pulled all the parts out the vinegar. Washed them off with soap and water and dry in the sun.
Then you have to wirebrush and paint to stop oxidation.

Here are some of the parts dried. You can see rust is very new compared to what they did look like a few days ago.

Wire brushed a small area to show the difference. Vinegar works well. And wire brushing is very fast since you dont have to press down at all.

Before image

After vinegar and a spot wire brushed on 1 part.

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed

A big thanks to Lowl!f3!

Thank you so much for the 4 x 4 to remove my bed, two saw horses, a patina wrap around bumper (I salvaged my original one and then I ran across a photo of a 65' bagger with one and wished I had kept mine), a swap for my 3.08 for his 3.42 rear-end. And also all the tips, tricks and a tour of a custom shop down the street. You really helped me out!

I wish I could have spent all day at your house!

Thanks again!

Mark

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed

Thatnks Mark

Yeah you got to watch using vinegar on thin smaller parts like thin washers and small springs. it will eat them until they disappear. On the brake parts I had an E clip and the small adjuster spring plus a wavy washer disappear. :/

Saturday the new bushings got installed and started painting the drag links.

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed

Well today I didn't do anything to the 65. However I was pissed about a design flaw on my 2007 F150. I noticed a water leak and discovered the flaw after tearing my truck apart to fix it. This is on my 2007 F150 4x4. And im sure any year before and after 2007 that has this same design. There is a design flaw involving the fan shroud and radiator. From the factory the shroud rests against the upper and lower core of the radiator. It's beyond me why designers could foresee this not working out. There is absolutely no grommet or bushing to wear out and make this happen because it is attached to the radiator. It is the way it was made.

Here are a few images so you get the idea. And I guarantee if you own this truck you better take care of it now. One corner of the shroud rubbed a hole in the core. However after further inspection. The radiator was being rubbed in all four corners on the core. All where the shroud rested against the core.

Now this is a few images of the shroud. You can see the scrape where it was rubbing and even marks from fins in the core. What I don't understand is why the molded this raised edge? It doesn't need this section of the plastic as you will see later in this post.

This whole raised edge on the bottom isn't needed since the whole side of the shroud contacts the radiator and this raised edge goes in towards the core contacting it.

Same thing on the top if the shroud.

Here is the best example of what is happening. You can see here how this happened. This is how the factory shroud is touching the radiator. I just have it laying on it right now just for images.

And now here is what you can do to correct the problem. If you put a new radiator back in your truck and do not take action on the shroud. You will be replacing another one or taking a chance of burning up your engine if you don't notice a water leak prior to it.
I took a cutoff wheel and removed the problematic piece of the shroud. And from these images you can see it has plenty of room now. And will not rub a hole in my core. The center of the shroud actually sits on the frame rail and not the core. Only this section I removed from all 4 corners touches the core. Now why didn't they see this would be a problem?

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed

Well today I welded up some more of the step notches. Had to go to the dr. First and run by welding apply and swap out my oxy/act bottles so I could cut some metal out of the way.
Then about 2 hours before dark I run out of wire in my welder. So off to harbor freight to get a new 10# roll. Always go with large rolls. This roll lasted me a long time.

This truck was spotted on the way to swap my oxy/act bottles. Had to snap a couple shots of it.

Now for my progress.

Re: 1965 C10 Long Bed

Well I just can't stop lol. Great news.. I ran across a good deal on a 06 vortec Combo.
It has 76164 miles on it from a truck that ran off the road and ripped the bed and rearend out on a culvert.
Turns out the 65 will end up with a new heart .
