Re: A New teenage member!

Thanks guys, I think it is the timing also. The carb is a clean and not jammed or anything but I have not timed it since I first fired it up and tuned it for the first time. I have almost put 500 miles in it and my plan was to check timing at 500 so I guess will just do it this weekend!

Re: A New teenage member!

Been tinkering on the truck off and on for the past few months. Picked up an original valve cover at the Portland Swap Meet from a fellow member to replace my dented one and also got a new high quality set of valve cover gaskets to replace the cork ones I put on when we put the engine back together. I have a small oil leak and I am pretty sure that the new gaskets should fix it. Also looking at putting a shallow sub or two under the seat to give the truck a little better sound. I currently have a dual kenwood underdash speaker along with pioneer kick panels speakers which sound awesome but just don't have quite enough thump. Any suggestions on good shallow subs would be greatly appreciated!!

Great job. Welcome to the board. I wish my son would take better interest in his granddads truck like you have yours.

Re: A New teenage member!

Been driving the truck a lot lately. Getting ready to pull the front timing chain cover to fix an oil leak but other than that I haven't had any problems. Getting ready to drop in an HEI distributed and possibly pull the seat and floor mat to install fatmat or rattle trap to quiet the can down and install a sub under the seat. The dual kenwood under the dash and kick panels speakers don't have quite enough thump, she needs just a little more bump. Gr a change to take a few nice pics of the the trick the other day too and now getting ready for a very big local car show here in Canby. After 3 years of bugging the people who host the show to have a high schooler category I finally was able to get them to do it so my younger brother and I with about 6 other high schoolers will be competing together this year!

Re: A New teenage member!

Good looking truck bud. I agree with another member that commented on your typing complete sentences. Great work. Keep it up.

Wished my son took better care of the truck since me and his mom divorced last year.

Re: A New teenage member!

Thanks guys! As far as writing in complete sentences goes I try my best, I am a national honers student and I am trying to keep a 3.6 or higher gpa to get into the firefighting program at the college I am looking at attending so I try to keep my writing up along with many other things the best I can!

Re: A New teenage member!

Just finished pulling the front of the motor to fix an oil leak. Removed the timing chain cover and used "right stuff" liquid gasket to stop my oil leak that has been driving me nuts since I finished the motor rebuild. No more oil leaks and she is running perfect now! Now for a sub and spray in boom mat!!

Welcome to the forum from Iowa. Nice, clean pickup you have. Engine, not motor (motors are electric, engines are combustible). Why the large air cleaner spacer?

Re: A New teenage member!

Updates: Had issues with the truck on hot starts so with a new pentronix unit to replace the points which did didn't help so that came out and a new MSD HEI distributed went in with new MSD wires and regaped plugs. This really helped and now the truck is the running better than ever and I can really feel how much more spark the truck has. Now he fun part, I picked up some NOS lower bed trim, NOS cargo light lense and NOS tailight bezels so I'm exited to get that in the truck. I also installed NOS upper bed trim I picked up on Craigslist for $50 for both pieces. Hopefully next I can find a sub to install under the seat. Plan is to pull the floor mat and install either a rapor liner or may sound deadener that won't make the original floor mat lay funny and to put the sub under the seat along with the amp and bass control dial.

Re: A New teenage member!

Senior pictures Had to do a few with the truck of course! The lady who did all the pictures loved the truck and told me a few stories of how her dad used to have a 71 with the same paint scheme and how she used to ride around in it with him and it brought back a lot of memories for her and after sitting in it it brought back even more. Truck will probably go in to have he paint in the roof redone as the original seal around the drip rail has seen better days
