Re: I Picked This Up Yesterday
Leon,
Are you going to look at the Kwik top bracket? Or maybe the Holley brackets? A friend is putting an LS in a 65 burb and he is impressed with Holley. Here is a low mount for consideration. Believe on this one it is 10.5 inches from crank centerline to outside of the compressor. http://trackmasterproducts.com/colle...nditioning-kit Kinda pricey though. |

Re: I Picked This Up Yesterday

Windshield is out and it looks like I have a couple of small places to fix. Drivers side is the worst and I can see why it rusted out, there is a small drain hole (actually a small slit) in the dash, just to the left of the rusted area and when they filled the body seam with seam sealer they filled the drain too. The moisture couldn't get out and just sat there. I got around the edges of the opening all cleaned up after I took the pics. I have most of the dash sanded but I have a couple of decisions to make before I can paint it.. I want to put a backup camera in the truck and the most convenient place would be in the dash. It has been cut for a different radio but not one of the new style ones. I have a Boss 5" Widescreen, touch screen radio that is camera ready but I don't know if the screen will be big enough to be used as a backup camera screen or not. With as many modifications as this truck has had done to it I'm not at all concerned with modifying the dash. I think I will paint the whole dash with regular paint then just coat the top of the dash with a flat or semi-gloss clear coat to dull it down. LockDoc

Re: I Picked This Up Yesterday
That stinks to see the rust, but at least it isn't too bad. We have back up cameras in some of our GMC vans at work that have 3.5" screens and they work pretty good.

Re: I Picked This Up Yesterday

I have been working on the panel but I have been doing stuff that isn’t real exciting. I lost a couple of days, one because my wife's computer took a dump so I had to fix it, and the other was we both had doctors appointments the same day and I had to drive her home from hers.. Anyways, I got the rust cut out at the bottom corners of the windshield, welded in new metal, and finished it off with a little Metal-to-Metal filler. Put a couple of coats of primer on it today. I decided to go ahead and prep the interior heater boxes so they are ready to paint. When I was under it loading it on the trailer to bring it home I noticed the bottom of the gas tank was wet with fuel. I figured I might as well drop it and check it out. It looks pretty nasty with a big patch on it, and it’s leaking around the patch. Looks like it’s time to scrounge a tank…. I also sorted out some parts that need blasted so I can do them all at once. Wow, I can't believe I haven't updated this thread for four months. Where does the time go??? I did have to take a short break from it to put this together: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=673588 but I'm back on it with a vengeance now. I will post some update pics tonight if I can get one of my three cameras to work... ![]() I ended up buying a new tank and lines. Later.... LockDoc

I got the dash painted, dash pad is in, inner and outer heater boxes painted & installed, Tilt Column and Tach dash installed, and front brake lines and shocks installed. I am now working on the booster & master cyl. I had to take yesterday and today off to have a Colonoscopy... Bummer.... Tomorrow I am going to try and get the brake booster finished up (I have to take it back apart because I forgot to install the firewall grommet.. ![]() LockDoc

Re: I Picked This Up Yesterday
Yes, as a matter of fact I am almost ready to try firing it up. Finished installing the booster and plumbing the brakes, soldered all of the fuse and relay connections, and finally figured out the under dash wiring. Just finishing up the fuel fill hose on it and double checking everything. I went to town and filled up a couple of gas cans a while ago. I used the trans linkage from a TH400 and everything worked out good. I had to re-drill two holes in the frame for the linkage pivot bracket but other than that everything bolted right up.... Getting the TCC wires connected to the extra contacts on the brake light switch was a fun job...NOT!! All of that small stuff is what's time consuming. That and looking for parts that I put somewhere safe so I wouldn't lose them.. ![]() I don't have the front clip on it yet but should be able to get that done this weekend, hopefully. No pictures right now because I forgot to bring the camera out to the shop with me. LockDoc

Good progress. The old 80/20 rule where the little stuff that is 20% percent of visable work takes 80% of the time it seems.

Re: I Picked This Up Yesterday

Well I fired the engine up today. I had a small glitch that took me some time to figure out but it was really simple, I missed hooking up one ground wire. The only problem was it was the most important one. It was for the PCM, so everything was dead until I figured it out. LockDoc
