Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
Mocked up the rest of the bed wood. I wanted to make all the boards even.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
Set the inner fender tubs on the bed. I don't like how high they sit. Because I had to bring the bed floor up 2 1/4 " to fit the S10 frame. So I think I'm going to mount them under the bed wood. Next is cutting and drilling the corner strips.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
Nice, I like the evenly spaced boards in the bed.
Do you have anymore pics of your bed mounts? How did you go about setting the bed height without the running boards in place? Getting my running boards and bed mounted will be coming up for me. Last edited by HUSSEY; 12-30-2015 at 03:18 PM. |

I dig this! Coming along very nice! Would you recommend the bolt on ridetech system? Thinking I might as well bag mine now too that I have it stripped down.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
The bed looks great. I used the same wheel tubs on my 48. They are not cheap but in my opinion they are the nicest looking tubs for AD trucks.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
Looked at your complete build so far, nice work. Soon as I saw the engine was hooked for the rest and keeps getting better.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
To answer your question Hussey. I just set 2x4s under the running boards.I got pretty lucky when setting my bed. I was able to use the front bed mounting brackets from the s10 and drill and bolt in one of the bed cross braces. Then I just drilled into the frame to mount the back cross brace and bolted that on. Then I used 2 inch angle iron for mount the floor of the bed front and rear.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
Here is the front bed brace mount to the old s10 bed mounts. Unfortunately I had to drill new holes In the bed strips to use this cross brace location. Here you can also see the 2" angle iron. Please don't jab me on the welds. My buddy decided to weld like a third grader. No,just kidding my welder was acting up.

Another pic of the rear cross brace bolted right on the frame. You can also see the rear 2" angle iron.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
I did not cut the old s10 back frame brace off. I used part of the to keep the frame structure. I just have to do some griding to clean the cuts.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
Its hard to see. But I left the bottom of the frame flat to hold the bed up in the rear. The cuts ugly right now but I am planning on cleaning that up.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
I do recommend the ride tech system. But it isn't exactly an easy bolt in. The instructions are pretty bad and it does require some assembly adjustments. I used to work at a gm dealership and I learned not all s10 frames are the same. They do change a little bit from year to year. So depending on how your frame Was set up from the factory.you will have to drill holes in differnent places and remove brackets that aren't in the instructions. But the nice part is you don't have to notch the frame unless you want it to lay running boards. Right now with the air all the way out of the bags the frame is 4 inches off the ground and the running boards are about 2 inches off the ground.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
Now it's time to change my garage from a metal shop to a wood shop. I have to sand, stain and clear the bed wood satin black next.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
super sweet job on the bed wood. I used the mar-k website dims on mine and they were a little short.
the sleeve bags and that ART air bar setup are the BEST riding rear suspension I have ever owned on any bagged truck or car I have ever owned, and its been a lot. even gets decent lift. I switched out the ART shocks for a set of long travel shocks and it got almost 7". be sure your sleeves squish all the way or you are losing lift, it looks like you are still an inch or so from squish. hockey pucks make nice spacers for the bottom to dial it in. dont let the bags hold the weight of the truck on the internal bumpstop though! bad juju.

Re: Project U S Army Sargent Slam
Thanks for the pics! I'm glad I left my front bed mounts in place and hadn't hacked them off yet, I'll be making use of them now after your input.
