Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
Just picked up some different seats for the front. To me the stock non back rest adjustable were not comfortable to me. Unfortunately we already dumped a bunch of money into the stock ones but that's life. I'll probably throw the originals up for sale on here.
Just talked to my interior guy and he's getting more material ordered up. Last edited by phillipm; 09-21-2017 at 12:42 PM. |

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
I spent about an hour last night and was able to get the power driver's seat working again. Really happy about that. Next I ordered a new switch on e-bay. I had to jump some of the connections to confirm the motor(s) worked in all directions. Hoping this weekend to try and test fit them in the truck. Some of the welding on the seat base brackets is not great looking.. Definitely safe, but not cosmetic.
Another thing I noticed is that the passenger seat does not have the E-Z entry base. Bummed and not sure if I can add one or if the seat is completely different. If anyone knows let me know! |

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
The newer seat can be adapted to the flip-up base, I think it only requires two new holes be drilled. There's another John here that documented this when he did it to his truck and made pics that show where to drill. He hasn't been active here in a spell but I'll see if I can find the info.

If I can't get that I might cut the current base apart because I'd like to keep the adjuster as well as the flip. So I'd be mashing the two together. |

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
So I started working on my seat swap. I pulled these from an 85 Blazer but they are actually from a 93 or 94 Suburban from what I can tell. Or a Crew Cab I suppose too. That is from the fact that the passenger seat doesn't flip and slide to allow access to the rear. I'm going to go to the junk yard this weekend and hunt around for a different passenger seat though. So, I started on the drivers side.
Somebody cut down the brackets to lower the seats, however the first thing I've noticed is that the seats don't sit level on my floor. Also, the holes are not even close to lining up. I bet they just drilled new holes in the 85 and stuffed bolts through. That's not how I like to roll. I will most likely cut these back apart and make proper lower brackets to bolt up to the factory locations. I have also moved the seat back about 2-3" from stock. It goes plenty forward so I just always like to move them back. This seat is power so the up and down is also a very nice feature. I did have to replace the switch. I got one used off of the Bay from a Grand National I believe. Last edited by phillipm; 09-21-2017 at 12:42 PM. |

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
Can you bolt that seat to your other base, to keep from having to rebuild someone's hack?

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
I could, however 2 reasons keep me from doing that.
1: I'd like to keep the power. 2: Ownership will be available on the others and I don't want to try and move them without the bases. Seems like most people would rather get them complete. |

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
Okay, so maybe I went a little overboard.. Haha. I ended up buying a complete second set of 1994 high back seats that were out of an 2-door extended cab. Meaning both the passenger and driver seat risers feature easy entry systems. I also spent time out in the salvage yard looking for some of the discontinued parts that makes these risers slide.
Next I cleaned everything up and got it all painted. I also met with my upholstery guy yesterday and gave him a set of heated seat pads. I mean at this point, why not? Haha. I'm hoping to have the seats back in the next week or so, so stay tuned for the new look. Last edited by phillipm; 09-21-2017 at 12:43 PM. |

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
Funny story about this. I went to 2 wrecking yards and I'd say they had about 100 OBS and NBS trucks. Only 1 out of all those had the correct seat base I was looking for. They had Suburban and Tahoe's out the yin yang but the trucks are just still being used! I see them still driving all over the place now that I'm looking.

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
Another small update. I went by the steel yard and picked up some 1.75x.25" cold rolled steel remnant and started working on the adapters to bolt my 94 seats down. I might need to counter sink the bolts in the rear if the new risers run into them. However won't know that till I get the seats back. I ended up butting the runners up in the back and then laying them over the front pieces. This is because the rear mounts are higher than the fronts by about 1/2" this doesn't totally get them flat again but is closer.
Also, the reason I went and picked up a second passenger seat slider was because my first one was dropping ball bearings and I wasn't sure why. Well, now that I have the new one I can see why. the slide rail on my original piece is bent to hell. Someone had too many Royal with Cheese and french fries. Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
Thought I'd let you guys know what we're up to. While I wait to get my new seats back from the upholstery guy, I decided to go ahead and C notch the truck. I used the same pipe that I used for the exhaust channels. Used a 4.5" hole saw to cut the frame and then welded in a boxing plate that I cut from 3/16" hot rolled steel plate. Got 1/2 done on Sunday and plan to try and finish it up tonight on the drivers side.

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
I was able to get the drivers side finished up last night. Only thing left to do is drill and tap the notches for a pair of bump stops.

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
Last week I finally got my seats back from the upholstery guy! Spent yesterday watching football and getting them installed in the truck. I'm super happy with how they turned out and they look just as at home in here as the stock ones did in my opinion. The addition of the arm rest is welcomed as well as have the EZ entry flip and slide on the passenger side. Here are a few pictures.

I forgot, my Dad took this video of the EZ Entry system working.
I tried to embed it but couldn't figure out how... https://youtu.be/hwQtbMb-_IQ |

Re: 78 2wd Blazer - LS Swap and more..
Where ever you get them inspect the cables first. None of the cables are available for the 94 and older seats, and my opinion the 95 and newer seats are too bulky and don't look right. My passenger seat EZ entry riser is from a 95. The outside cable fit but the inside cable is a different length. I had to cut it and use a crimping collar to make it happen.
