I'm still here!! as usual carwash season dominated my life this year. Before winter I did get to drive it ( at least out of the shop and back inside)

Painting the hood now and putting the interior together.

The window glass frames are hitting the " whiskers" inside the door when I try to roll it up. I see that alot of people have this issue, but haven't found a solution yet.

Has anyone found the holy grail answer?

also has anyone used a good billet window crank/ door handle set from someone?

Lookin good! On my truck, I just bent the flange back some on those felts. My truck hasn't been painted yet though, so I wasn't concerned about any fresh paint

With my truck I pulled the glass out of the channels, squeezed the top of the channels together as much as possible to get the glass back in. I used windshield urethane to glue the channels back on and I also put some small spacers (1/16" - 1/8" or so) in the bottom of the channel so the glass didn't go in all the way. If you go to an autoglass shop near closing time you can get a part tube of urethane from them. They throw them out because they won't keep till the next day.
The truck is coming along nicely. Love that colour.

BAck with an update:
Removed the glass and cleaned up the glass channels nd painted them.
I bought new felt strips from rubber the right way. They fit way better, but before installing I took the advice from this thread and " widened" the inner gap where they clip in. worked perfect.

Wood ready for poly, fenders on even has working taillights!

So I've decided I'm taking this truck to a father's day car show come hell or high water. The jam session is on! Had my better half help get the bed wood in place. and test fit the grill

the new door handles seem too " short" The actuator pin on the push button needs to be like 1/8 longer to make the latch open all the way.

As far as the bed wood kit from Mark-k goes..I wanted the bed on the truck so when I mock the wood up to drill the holes everything is perfect. Man was setting that thing on the frame stressful

SO learned a few lessons from the headlight install:

New parts suck
Don't have new parts powdercoated assuming they will fit
J.W SPeaker lights are expensive.

I struggled for 2 days with the lights. I did have to open up the holes in the back buckets for them, but the main issue was with the adjusting bucket itself.

The tabs on the bucket that "align" the headlight in just didnt fit no matter what I did. Obviously made worse is the fact that the new LED bulbs are shaped a little different than the factory halogens.

Took my old grill apart to get the factory buckets, chopped the backs off them, sandblasted, painted and everything fits perfect. :shrugs:

5 days till car show. still have never driven the truck.
had to remove the transmission to fix an oil leak. When I put the engine together I tightened the rear cover first, then bolted the oil pan up. The rear cover hung down past the mating surface of the pan, a la leak city. Rookie move.

Problem: occasionally when moving the truck around the shop the torque converter would " lock" and either stall the engine or worse, try to drive through the brakes and into whatever it was that was in front of me.

since the trans was out I took it back to the builder and had him add a different valve in the pump. I guess its a common issue with 4l80e's and big billet converters.

At this point I was going to throw in the towel. Not only was my trans at the shop, but I had some major issues at the carwash that ate up 3 days and 3 late, late nights.

My 75 year old car guy neighbor who Invited me to the car show came to the shop with:
random stainless bolts
a bucket of detailing supplies
gatorade and beef jerky

He says " I've got nothing better to do and you seem like you need the help"

.......Damn, I hope I'm a cool old guy one day!!!!

Well I can't back out now!

Got the bed all snug and even did front and rear bumpers!!

Back where we started, taking the first drive to mom's house. Hood still needs wet sanded and buffed, tailgate was fighting me so it's not going on right now, and I just ordered some tires for these temporary wheels because they are dry rotted.

But I think I'm Driving this beast to the Father's day Car Show!!!!

Congrats on pushing through! We all can learn something from an old neighbor even better when they're helping us 'grow'. The fact that you acknowledge & appreciate what he did likely means you're likely to do the same for another. Kudos for that.
