Re: age catagory of board members
Wow, I haven't seen a thread this old in a long time. I'm 38. My current build is my first. Anything I've done, I had to learn myself...no prior experience. My father is unfortunately not mechanically inclined. He says I "got it from my grandfather."

Re: age catagory of board members
I'm 38. Learned how to wrench with friends and my brother. Still have a lot to learn,
My first car and still my favorite of any vehicle was a 69' Camaro. Bought that car with paper route money when I was 14, rebuilt the motor with my brother and finally drove it half way through my senior year. Then like a stupid kid I sold it . I've had others along the way, one of which was my dads 71' LWB I drove when I was 19-21. Sold it . I had to sell a 66' SS 396 Chevelle when I got married/bought a house , then came kids and no cars. I'm finally back in the game now, and I love my truck. In fact I plan on getting another one within the next year. Here is my truck and one of my little curtain climbers. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] |

Re: Age catagory of board members-circ 2003
I do not like being one of the "old guys"....
53 years old. Been playing with cars and trucks for almost 50 of those years. Dad raced professionally from 63-69. I graduated from General Motors Institute and have been with GM for 35 years in assembly and product design/development (with Full Size truck Engineering all of those except 4 years). Starting my 36th year of NHRA drag racing in my Chevelle, which was my first car. K

Re: Age catagory of board members-circ 2003
Looks like Leon (LockDoc) and I will be the standard bearers until some OLD folks show up!
71 here as well. The truck has been "done" for several years, which is a good thing. I still tinker on it, but it's more fun to just drive it. I subscribe to the "...if it ain't broke, don't fix it..." group. When I was building the truck I used this site as my total resource. Excellent information, and everyone was tolerant of even the most basic questions. It's really hard to believe so much time has passed!

Re: Age catagory of board members-circ 2003
I am 39. I've held a variety of jobs, some quite varied. A few for the reader: ultrasonographer, armed guard, exterminator, tutor, teacher, ski instructor, lawn mower, bartender, car salesman, cleaning supplies salesman....I could go on and on. Now I own some rental property and hope to expand that.
I learned some things from my dad but most of my (limited) mechanical ability came from renovating this one rental property I bought in 2010. When I first thought about getting my truck going last summer none of my plans included most of what I've done just thus far! I feel that what I am doing is going to save me a lot of hassle on down the road and fix some of the things that should have been addressed with this truck as far back as the 1980's. I want to thank everyone for their help and support. |

Re: Age catagory of board members-circ 2003
I'm 42, Married for 19 years this year, 2 kids 14 and 12. I get accused of being an oversized teenager a lot. Joined in the mid 2000's, didn't get active until 2010. I'm a Gage Technician, rebuild and certify precision instruments. I've been the dude at the Gas-n-go, a carpet and air duct cleaner, built industrial trucks, R&D Fab & Development for concrete form companies, CNC and manual machining, and car painter.
I'm a member of a lot of forums (I'm a compulsive reader, and forums are a self-writing book!) and this one is by far the best, and I owe a lot to it. Also a proud member of the Lockdoc Fan Club! Checking in here every morning is like being at a campsite and rollin' out of your tent and seein' what everyone's up to today!

Re: Age catagory of board members-circ 2003
I'm 43. It all started when I was around 9. I would get my dads tools out and disassemble my bicycles and attempt to "customize" them like the model car kits I got from the toy store. This always got me in big trouble with the old man but i couldnt help myself. When i got my first car i did the same thing, usually just making things worse. The years went by and I got involved in other things but I was always in love with older GM trucks. Mostly the 55-59 variety but the other years also. I moved from florida to washington in 1998 and the bug for an old truck was haunting me. I bought a house and one of my new nieghbors had this 59 fleetside for sale in his driveway. My wife and i would pass it in the evening taking our boys out for a walk. I talked to the seller and bought it after a high rpm drive down the freeway.
Ive bought and sold a few since but i think this one will remain in the stable for awhile. The other pic is one of myself. I'm a health physics tech ( meter swinger) employed at a dept. of energy site. Currently trying to dismantle an old plutonium processing building with minimal success. |

Re: Age catagory of board members-circ 2003
I joined in 05. I had lurked for a couple years and was scared to join and post because of my lack of computer skills.
I'll be 55 this summer and I been playing with trucks since I was wearing 3 corner pants. I got a kick outta looking at how many guys have had there accounts suspended. I'm not gonna lie some of them were friends on here that I enjoyed typing with. They just couldn't conform I guess.

Re: Age catagory of board members-circ 2003
im 20, almost 21. i work at an electrical distribution/wholesale house that my girlfriend of 4 years dad owns.pretty sweet. trying to save to get a house sometime, but this siter and these trucks just kill me(lol)
when i was 12-13 i used to drag home weedeaters and lawnmowers from the trash, fix them and make them run then sell them. believe it or not i actually made money.i proceeded to work on gocarts that me and my dad(mainly him, haha) built. i wanted to fabricate and customize anything and make it awesome well i turned 15 bought a 78 4x4 3/4 ton silverado and fixed it up quite nice and extensively, i still have it. i now own a stable of crap and my neighbors hate my entire family because our backyard has a row of old rusty vehicles. i am going to school for emt/firefighting and pursue that. who knows where the future takes it? but anywho, awesome board and a hell of a group of guys and gals

The great thing is that I selected my age in the poll over 10 years ago. So I am choosing to keep that age

I'll be 60 in a couple of months. I grew up around airplanes and started holding wrenches at the age of 4 for my dad, Pushed my first car home in 1967 at age 13, its been an addiction to hod rods and custom cars ever since.
