Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

Another major change is I'm adding a ProCharger to the Wrong Bed thanks to my day job. Made up of left over R&D parts the truck is getting a cog driven M1-SC blower that I spec'd for 5-7 pounds of boost. Perfect for a pump gas build. As with the rest of the build I'm pulling heavily from my nostalgia influences trying to give it the astatic of something possible in the late 60's early 70's. What's awesome is with a slight trim of the factory shroud I can still run it plus my clutch fan. Still a bit to do but here it is thus far.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

Been wrenching every night after work and made a bunch of head way on the blower install. including whipping up the core support pass through. Finished the alternator mounting on the passenger side while keeping the SWP. New torque strap for the driver side plus staring on the vacuum lines and hoses. The upper radiator came out of a 73 square body with ac to keep with the old school look. Now waiting on the water pump pulley a MSD btm box and the new main body but its coming together quickly.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

Haven't posted as I've been crazy busy fixing the truck ... So as I was wrapping up the blower install and upon filling the coolant found the sbc had popped a head gasket last time out when stuck in gridlock on a 100 degree here in the city. (funny part drove home no issues and never went above 212 on both gauges. So it provided the catalyst to yank the motor for a refresh at which time My wife and i decided to build a fairly stout 383 out of it plus a few more upgrades.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

With the engine out and broken down we ordered a forged eagle 383 crank, forged rod and pistons. I ordered main studs, scored a super victor, built a blow through 780 carb and dropped off the rotating assembly for balancing. But fortunately the head gasket was the only issue and the short ride home did no damage.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

As things seem to snow ball they did with the 383 build decided to snag a gear drive. picked up a set of new valves for the heads that are being ported by a coworker. Added rocker arm girdles to use with the 1.6 rockers. Plus throwing in puck style clutch to help put the power to the ground through the stick.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

This will bring me up to date at this point now with the rotating assembly being at the machine shop. My wife and I had to travel to Italy for here job so it gave me a slight brake to refine and dial in my plans. So the 383 will be 10.25:1 with a forged rotating assembly. The block will be fully studded and using the same high capacity oil pan. A milodon style gear drive with an 8" sfi balancer. The cam will be the same solid flat tappet (I know its not the ideal boost cam but I'm really happy with the characteristics) The heads will be ported with new ferrara valves, and the rockers are 1.6 ratio with the added girdles. Plus the intake manifold and 780 carb, and of course the blower. Added a puck style clutch and fixing the speedo in the trans as well as a new drive shaft. We also agreed to order a new triple pass radiator, and a fresh oem seat cover. I'll be adding a ford style starter solenoid plus a line lock. Finally we are thinking of taking 1" out of the stance all around. This weekend will be the block work and cleaning to get ready for reassembly

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

So I've been super busy on the truck and really had it snow ball.... so it started with while the block is out I added billet caps and studs plus 1/4 filled the block. Also spent some time smoothing the heads to give a retro look.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

From there I started on and whipped up a blower guard for the cog belt. I also began making up some solid motor mounts to replace the rubber mounts. In this time I also found out my nostalgia pro stock Demon to PRI this year too so that has split my attention too

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

As the trend of this has been the going over board has become a theme! With the fact I'm moving to the Denver area for my wife's work is making me think about more boost so I decided to retro fit a 1300 hp capable intercooler behind the grill for a better charge. This also got me to to revamp and improve the cooling system by shrouding the full opening to force all air through the rad. Plus I made up an under bumper air scoop that's the width of frame rails.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

With running the intercooler I've had to run intercooler tubing. These tubes I went ahead and hid the tubes and race valve as much as I could. With this I also added a line lock under the master for some fun. Also tracked down a tri five Lakewood blow shield for the Muncie with a vintage reverse lock out for drag and drives.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

Keeping with with the hidden but modern retro them I elected to hide everything in the glove box by using an AC glove box to mount the BTM box, boost gauge, wideband, and Bluetooth controls. during install found that the BTM box didn't have the mag pick up leads. Fortunately they use the same circuit board so popped it open and soldered in leads. Also picked up a Vortec hat for more of a vintage look. So far Jaxson approves. Plus some 3" studs.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

now with all the modifications the fueling system is up next. I'm keeping the tank in the cab, one because of the original novelty and two my wife and I are under 5'8". So I'll be running an aeromotive a1000 with matching regulator. The -10 regulator will be out the bottom of the tank and the -8 return will be in the upper passenger side of the tank. Also to keep the vintage theme the regulator was stripped and recoated wrinkle black and all the red was stripped from the AN fittings to be redone in gold /yellow the way early fittings were done. The painting being done I decided it was a good time to mock up the engine prior to final assembly.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

Now to the really fun stuff, building the 383 all the parts are in hand and machined so I started assembling the rotating assembly. Plus made up a custom plate for the front of the truck off our new stickers.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

Worked on assembly over the past couple nights for the truck. Rotating assembly is together and torqued. Then I took the time to index the cam and install the gear drive.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

Switched gears back to the truck itself and decided to add an amp and sub under the seat so when cruising out to Bonneville from Colorado it would be great to to have some tunes. Plus I plan to lower the c10 another inch in the front and 1.5 in the back Also I'm in the market for another c10 to build this time to give to my parents and ship back home to Massachusetts. The final look is going to be similar to these when done.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

So now that PRI is done with my 71 Demon, I had time to slam the 383 together and it cam out quite well have to do a couple more things but otherwise its done we are hoping for 550 na and 700's on boost at the flywheel. But once the loose ends are tide up it will be time to drop the engine in.

Re: The Wrong Bed C10 build

Had a solid weekend getting things prepped for the big engine drop! Truck's now chilling in its new spot, all set for the next phase.

Mocked pieces up—headers, small bits—all falling into place for the final assembly in the truck. It's like a sneak peek before the real deal.

The engine drop is getting closer, and every step feels like progress. Thanks to everyone riding along on this journey! More updates coming soon.

Day2C/10 -- are your headers painted, ceramic-coated, powder coated or wrapped?
I dig the white header look. Smokey Yannuck style.

Cool. I couldn't find VHT White, so I bought a couple cans of White stove paint.
Right now, the GMC is my daily driver, so I can't take it offline to pull the headers and paint them. But it's a near future project.
