Re: IROC Lovers?
Can't wait for the update. You're making good progress on it. Wish I could say the same for my latest project. I'm just ordering parts.

Re: IROC Lovers?
Thanks dirts, it sure did come out nice. I asked momma bout that iroc you sent me in abq… lol yea that’s not happening
Well here’s something cool! It took a bit of work to get it to this point. I might throw a thread together to keep up with the progress in alternative tinkering, probably will be mostly copy and paste from my build thread on thirdgen.org

Re: IROC Lovers?
Believe it or not Paul, those are the original keys and key covers. I’ve got a new set of injectors, fuel psi regulator, and ignition parts on the way. Sitting for all those years has the injectors wrecked. It’s does run and it sounds pretty decent sped up but it barely idles and Is obviously down a couple cylinders at idle.

Re: IROC Lovers?
Another update. It’s back together and moving under its power again for the first time in 20 years as of last night. I still need to get a rear wheel rounded up and 4 tires before I can actually take it down the road. My wife wants to DD it after a little more work. Everything works now except for the power locks and windows. I didn’t end up having to put injectors in it by some huge miracle. High concentrations of sea foam brought them back to life. It still had the original cap and rotor in it so I went thru and did a full ignition tune up on it and it runs really good now. The Posi still works

Re: IROC Lovers?
Thanks guys. Yep, no glove box in the 82-92 cars. The RPO sticker is even in the glovebox. It’s come a long pretty nicely. Saturday I got the power windows, locks, and defroster working again. Amazing what reinstalling the fuses does. I was about half scared what I would find when I put them back in but luckily I didn’t let the smoke out of anything lol. I also got the MAF burnoff code resolved. I think it was just a bad connection at the relay. I’m going to rebuild the alternator so as to keep the car as original as possible. It’s charging fine but the bearings are growling pretty bad. The original water pump will get rebuilt as well once it starts to leak. Other than that its just tires and a wheel. Thanks for the heads up on the wheels in El Paso, I’m working to try and get one of them rounded up!

Re: IROC Lovers?
Sweet IROC, I love those 3rd gen Camaro's. Grew up in the backseat of a 83 Z28 Crossfire car and have wanted another ever since that one went down the road. Had a 91 Z28 droptop for a bit, but it wasn't that 83. The tuned port motors were pretty darn good motors. Probably the weakest link is the rear end in those cars. Ive noticed the market finally coming up on those cars as well.
Ill just stick to playing with my 68 Camaro and C10, they drain the wallet enough as it is, lol.

Re: IROC Lovers?
Definitely wouldn’t surprise me if it was in the trunk on yours, I’ve seen some people on third Gen say that it was dependent on build plant as well. In the earlier years I know one plant put them in the console and the other put them on the console lid.
Mine is pretty well optioned.

Re: IROC Lovers?
I can believe the different plant idea. I have dealt with that issue alot when I restored my 68 years ago. What Van Nuys did and Norwood did could really vary. Plus if your car was in the middle of midyear updates, thats a really big can of worms.

Yup. GM liked to use up the leftover parts. Or so I've been told.

Re: IROC Lovers?
Update time….
I ended up having to rebuild the alternator because it killed the rear bearing-CS130’s are famous for it. I rebuilt it my self to keep as much of the car original as possible. I replaced all the rubber brake hoses and flushed and cleaned all the old fluid out of it, changed the oil again to get the marvel concoction out of it, put new tires and one rear wheel on it, added friction modifier to the rear end. Today I took it for the maiden drive and brought my older 2 kids with me. It went perfect. 7 miles and no trouble, all smiles!

Re: IROC Lovers?
I can't believe I missed this thread before....I need to get back on mine.
Mine is an '84 (pre-IROC, pre-TPI)....305 H.O. automatic. The original wheels are in the shed as well. Current condition: on jackstands getting all new steering components and it looks like I'll be doing all of the suspension bushings as well. Pretty much everything is tired. One interesting (to me) thing about the car is that I was able to get the same vanity tag number that the car had on it in the '80's and have both the original stamped plate and the matching new flat printed plate.

Re: IROC Lovers?
Nice car! Glad to see I’m not the only one who ends up with crap scattered every where when I’m working on them haha.
I replaced all four of the lift cylinders for the hood and hatch this afternoon. Nice to not have to worry about getting the guillotine every time I’m under them anymore. Next I’m gonna take the hatch motor apart and see if I can get it working more reliably. It’s 50-50 shot currently. I took it on another short drive about 8 miles today at 60-70mph. It ran nice and smooth, plenty of power and again no issues. I’m really starting to like this car a lot.
