Thanks, Kev…my friend told me that the body guy put sooo much time into it that he never wants a side job that intense again! Lucky for me that I started off with the worse piece…so we’ll see if he helps me out in the future with some of my minor issues???

Re: Slow Progress is better than No Progress.

Not quite done with the rear hatch portion of the never-ending story...but since our Suburban side of the group has been so quiet lately, I thought I'd post some pictures of a little progress!

Did a trial run install of the hatch (without installing the new rubber seals) because "practice makes perfect?" Also...painted the area surrounding where the window moulding will go so I won't have to remove it to finish the job.

Painted the inside with the yellow, so double masking was involved.

As my window gasket is the original style with the locking bead, I had to form and tape it tightly around the glass then 3M glue the ends together. I've left it sitting this way for several days to help it hold it's shape (not sure when I'll have help to actually install it?)

Close-up of the super adhesive in the butt-end-joint...most of which won't been seen.

First time having the "surfboard" seats in with the new "woody-style" headliner...I love it when a plan comes together!

Most excellent dude!
I've been working on my Firebird and that has taken my free time away from the Burban. I guess I need to get some postable work done on the WMB

Overall, the weather here in So Cal has been a little cooler than most summers…actually makes it perfect for working inside an oversized tin-can! Now, if I can just get a handle on all the other obstacles that keep me from working on it?

Re: Slow Progress is better than No Progress.

For me the biggest problem with delays being parts or cash. I come up with new ideas for something. Can be something cool as hell and c an be changing something already done one way and think have better idea. Just my nature.

I agree doing something bears watching TV and getting mad about politicians stealing a fortune that would be better spent on the making world better with more High performance vehicles.

Also getting more done than me. Cutting ,grinding and welding in 90* 90% humidity sucks.

Well, Chris…at least you have the physical abilities and know-how to push ahead (which I am very envious of!). I’m willing to pay to move things along, but finding knowledgeable people has been difficult for me…although, I do admit that our weather is great here!

With diabetes and at 59 with grandfather who lost two legs from this ****. The ability is part of push. Already had one close call with big toe. A damn blister from hour at track w/o socks. took a year and a half and then only because I said screw this and made a shoe that actually worked, Now just need to figure out how to paten it and make wife rich for when I am gone and she has them drive me to grave in my Panel towing my Front Engine Dragster. Hell might as well make a show of it.LOL

Not that close I hope but it happens and getting closer everyday for all. So I push to get all I can out of it. Some would say that understatement.

Great progress! Get that glass in there and you have a canvas for some cool vintage decals.

Thanks, CG…I am working on it, however my first attempt at the install was not successful. After reading and watching install tips (none of which specifically covered a suburban), the consensus was to install the glass into the rubber, then rope-in the rubber onto the pinch weld. Two days of struggling did end with the unit in place all the way around, but not actually seated or sealed by any means! Then I found a tutorial from Steele Rubber that showed the install of glass into a cargo door of a panel/suburban (smaller glass, but the same style rubber seal). They had some other tips, but the big one was to seat the rubber seal on the pinch weld first then rope-in the glass into the channel. It looks much more doable this way…just lost my window of opportunity for the moment! Love the decal idea (already have some!)…but I had such a distorted view out my rear glass for so long, I might want to enjoy it clear for a while?

The view from the back hatch is amazing! Love it! I'm retiring soon and hope to get back to my njsuburban soon.

Thanks for asking, CG…very little is the simple answer, unfortunately! My father-in-law passed away back in September after about a month stay in the hospital…very unexpected! My wife and I have been taking care of his home, etc…since then as my mother-in-law is physically disabled and has dementia, but still desires to stay put. Caregiving is difficult to do on a full-time basis, so we are developing a schedule for other family members to pitch-in to give us some time to take care of ourselves. Enough said on that tough subject…but I was able to get my hatch window in, finally. When I can, I’ll write more about it and include some pictures. Thanks again for checking-in!

It's good that you guys can share responsibilities. It's really draining to try and do it by yourself. Hang in there!

Thank you, Leon…it has been incredibly draining for us, but the help we have gotten to this point is lacking any consistency. When we get a commitment to a regular schedule, it will feel much more manageable. I appreciate the kind thoughts.

Re: Slow Progress is better than No Progress.

Well…I finally managed to squeeze in some time to install the rear hatch glass, and boy, that was more of a job than I thought it was supposed to be! I found that the body guy that restored the incredibly rotted hatch added a little extra to the pinch weld requiring me to (after taking careful measurements) grind a little off, opening the window hole just a touch…basically, making an even reveal all the way around. It was still a b*#%h to fit…but with the help of a friend, we were able to complete the task. I was still worried about the fit around the corners as something looked off, however, after putting the rubber lock bead in place (another PITA), everything pushed down and looked correct. Many thanks to Bryce (BAD1916) for the clean hatch glass he donated to me…it looks sooo much better than before!
