Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread

Nice job on the tubs. Did you have to get extra tubs for your filler piece? When I did mine I used scrap that I cut out of my inner bed sides when I raised the floor. I still need to finish welding my tubs, it's been over a year!

That's super clever I hadn't even considered that! I did buy two tubs for each side... I wish they still made CHUB TUBz in the stock wheel width

New tailgate fits alright! Working on the bed floor, rear tubs, and tailgate filler panel.

How did it line up with the bed sides? I need a tailgate, not sure if I want to go the LMC cheaper route or pony up and buy an OG old metal tailgate.

I can't complain with this one from LMC. I used the stock hinges and handle with it to make it feel more "solid" like the original

Trying something different with the tailgate filler panel. This is an inner tailgate skin. It's gonna take a fair amount of fit and finish back here, along with installing the emergency shrader valves and remote battery posts.

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread

Is that panel left over from the original tailgate? If so great re-use of material.

It's a new piece, I had it for a long time actually thinking I was gonna salvage the old tailgate.

I might trim off the dented part near the bottom or tack some new sheet metal right there.

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread

Got the rear tubs in place. I need to trim a little from the inside since they are rubbing the outer bedside skin. After this, I noticed the bedside rails at the top of the sides are bowed out on both sides.

Has anyone had to straighten this area? I'm thinking a long 2x4 and big hammer whacking towards the top of the rail will straighten it a bit.

Re: 1970 C10 ChassisFab Build Thread

That bed turned out great. Not sure about a 2x4 and big hammer, but maybe a piece of angle iron and some clamps to help bend it back in. Is it like that on both rails?

Thank you! Yeah my plan now is to weld some angle iron to the inside of each bed rail and use a slide hammer to pull inwards after thinking about it some more.

It was a farm truck so the PO must have had some heavy stuff rolling around in the bed lol.

Nice work on this truck! What did you use to paint the engine? Did you use a clearcoat?
