Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I got out my sawzall and removed the old exaust system, removed the crossmember and e-brake cable then began cleaning the firewall and the front of the frame and front suspension. I had to use a hammer and old screwdriver to get some of the big stuff off, I felt like I was breaking loose fossils. Boy...that easy off oven cleaner really works good!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I got the Cummins to fire up. It was a great Christmas present. It definitely sounds intense...it rocked the whole truck when I revved it a few times - now I just need a brake booster, rear disc conversion, prop valve and some brackets for the seat I have. I'm debating if I will remove the tank in favor of a frame mounted unit. I also need an intake/filter, electric fans and the rest will be the small stuff to make her look nice..plus gauges for boost, EGT, tach, oil and power. She's coming along

Sounds like it's time for a lift kit and / or a short bed truck

Glad you got to take it out and have some fun with it even if you did get stuck.

I get my 78 K20 long bed truck stuck all the time due to its length and overhang.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Took my 72 GMC Short/Fleet to a new shop (in the area I moved to).
Had him adjust the idle speed and Mixture. Then got an estimate for painting the Interior.
Put it on the Calander for 4-6 weeks.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I sprayed more oven cleaner on the frame and washed it off then after it dried I primed the bare metal to keep it from rusting.

I think it was more do to the low hanging stock rear bumper... besides if I lift it....it wont fit in the garage....

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Got the stepside fenders on. Scuffed a few spots cause I had to put them on by myself so spent the rest of the day taping and wet sanding. Was around 2 degrees today so even with the heater on in the garage it never got "warm" . Made good progress and got the wet sanded areas re-primed and ready for another coat of white tomorrow. I may be able to mount the bed to the truck on Sunday.(fingers crossed)

Taped my new cowl hood on for a quick lookie. Slapped the fenders on real quick. Liked what I saw. Getting my small window cab and 5.3 tomorrow. Let's hope this summer I get to drive this project of mine.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Installed a 12 volt power storage device (sounds better than battery, think?) and semi-permanent hookups for a battery tender. Took the rest of the day off to watch football.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Greased the bearings on my front hubs and found where my steering noise was coming from at 65 to 70 mph. Very loose tie rod end to crossover bolt nut. Retightned to 50 ftlbs. Seems tight. Test drive today. Rebuild of front end to come soon.
