Re: 1968

Today I finshed installing the insulation board in the ceiling in the shop. What a difference a day makes. Now I want have to work in the heat anymore. I have a 110 AC unit I am going to install in one of the windows. I also recieved some parts from a fellow board member. A power steering unit with hose and brackets. Top quality to say the least. A battery tray and now I can install it in the engine compartment. and install the power steering pump after I clean and sand blast it and paint it up.

I'm no expert by any means, but I remember my brother telling me that too much (too thick) of paint can chip more easily. Just mentioning because you said you were going to shoot the steps some more. Maybe I'm mistaken of what I remember and someone else can chime in. Otherwise, looking good

Re: 1968

Today I started in cleaning up the shop after the insulation install. What a mess. Got that done and I sand blasted the power steering pump and brackets. also the new battery box. But the wire I had holding the battery box broke and it fell to the dirt and it was a mess also. So tomorrow I will take a another look at the battery box and see if it needs to be sand blasted and re painted.

Tomorrow I will install the power steering and batter box.

Re: 1968

That looks just like the power steering pump I put on my truck. Too bad the battery box fell, hopefully it won't be too bad. Stay cool, George!

Re: 1968

well today I installed the battery box. The bolts that attaches to the rariator core support were a little off. About 1/8 of a inch, but with a little strap I pulled it over and done deal. looks good. The part that hit the dirt yesterday is where you can't see it. So I didn't have to re-paint it. No one will ever know but me.

After that was done I installed the power steering pump. What a job that was. One of the bolts attaches to the motor mount bolt. Not enough room for my hand to get in there. So I took the mounting bracket off the pump and then I could get my hands to install the bolt. It took me about 2 hours to install the power steering pump. Still didn't get the hoses on the gear box yet. It started to get too hot so I will take he rest of the day off. That is for tomorrow. Also the starter will go on tomorrow.

Then I painted the fan with the hamered brown. The same color as the brake booster.

I am satified with the progress of today. I hope I can do as well tomorrow.

I can't remember what you said about your alternator, do you have one yet?
I noticed you don't have a flywheel cover installed, do you have one?

Thanks. I used to go all day long and never stop but now time and age is catching up to me. But, at 65 I guess I am doing a lot better than most and a lot worse than some.

No alternator yet. The flywheel cover is a no also. I had one but had to pull it off so the starter would fit. I think it came off of a th350. I was going to use it but like I said it interfeared with the starter.

I need a brace for the starter. Does anyone have one that they are not going to use? I could make one but, it is easier to just buy one from somebody.

Re: 1968

George I'm pretty sure you don't need a brace for the starter, I've never used one on any of mine.

Re: 1968

Today I started with the bed side pocket holes. Got both of them welded up and some bondo applied and sanded. Then I spray some primer over the areas that I worked on.
I started working on some of the little dings on the inside of the bed sides. It is coming alone quiet well. Tomorrow I will work on the other side if I finish the first one complete.

It took me about 4 hours to complete the holes and sides. and I figure about 3 more to do the sides. So I might not get the other one started.

Re: 1968

Today I welded and bondo the other bed side stake holes. I still didn't finish the one I started yesterday. But I am working on both of them at the same time. It was so hot that I stoped and took the rest of the day off. Maybe later I can go back outside and finish one bed side. Even with the new insulation in the ceiling it stilll is super hot in the shop today.

Re: 1968

Good progress, George. It rained for 2 days here, but cooled down to mid 70's today. I took the old truck to work, and then a car show on the way home. It was fun to drive her a bit. I remember when I put my starter on. I don't know why, but the flywheel cover was a bear to get on, too.

I was using a th350 on th400. Guess that is why the starter would not go on. One day I will get to drive around and go to car & truck shows.

Re: 1968

Today I finished with both of the bed sides. A lot of sanding and bondo and more sanding and a little more bondo and more sanding. I got them looking real sweet. Then I sprayed some white primer on them untill my brother-in-law come back up. He will tell me if they are as sweet as I think they are I hope they are ready for K2 and the orange paint. I think they are but I will wait for him. You don't know how much I wanted to paint the orange on them.
Here I am sanding on them.

Herer are the boys working on the bed sidewith me. It was a good day to see them working and not fighten with each other.

here is the finish product before I sparyed primer on them.

And here are the bed side all primed and ready. A finish product of a lot of work. Two days worth.
