Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait
Thanks Kees and Richard.
Lizard Skin is done. Pulled the powertrain out and took chassis back to Luke for firewall fab. Yeah, I had big plans to fill some holes in the frame and that didn't happen. Too much other maintenance to do...yard, equipment, other cars. |

Did you use the lizard skin, sound control or ceramic insulation or both?

I had really good help on the engine. Grandson now knows what tools to use and where they are in the tool box. Grandpa is loving that! This engine was pretty rust flakey with only a little oil crud around the oil filter. Dawn dish soap in hot water did a reasonable job on the oil crud, followed by two applications of oven cleaner with hose spray off. A little work with a die grinder and wire wheel helped tremendously. The block still needs a more help before paint so I will probably do some spot blasting. Makes me jittery thinking of the blast media and where it could infiltrate into the engine. |

I agree Oldman
I used both Lizard skin products on mine, really happy with results. Remember both is only .080" Here is a vid I made showing my results. http://youtu.be/GymwCS3Mxqo I had my whole motor and trans sandblasted. Then I took it apart, plug with rag, 2 layers of duck tape on all holes, nothing got in.

I will probably do the same with blasting the engine and will follow your lead on the duct tape. |

Yeah I get it. Cars and working on them has been a huge part of my life since Dad taught me to gap and replace spark plugs when I was 8 years old.

While we've been busy on the home front, LJ Customs and Blasting has been making good progress on the Suburban. He does really nice work and is worth checking out on FaceBook.

Thanks mongo, oh I think Marc is pacing fine. Everyone here knows my typical glacial pace on projects.
Thanks Robbie, progress is all Luke. Appreciate that Jim. He is doing a nice job. Yes, Luke is very talented. Thanks Marc. It is coming out really nice. Progress I've done is nil...have many sub projects I could be working on and spent all day yesterday whipping the yard into shape. |

Awesome work on the firewall! You have my curiosity up with the part on the fixture. You show it on a skeleton fixture, with a ball peen hammer tactfully sitting on top, but I assume that it was actually formed with an English Wheel?

Made sure there was room for AC using the Vintage Air hollow evaporator. Very light making installation fabrication a little easier.
