Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Buffed and waxed all the painted cab interior surfaces on my 70 GMC. Looks great...amazing the amount of grime that builds up over 44 years.
Bolted rear frame coil spring supports and cup mount plates back on and installed rear springs. Now I can get the bed back on...next weekend. |

Love this board. Yes, a cracked fly wheel sounds a lot like a rod knocking. Replacing fly wheel-found carrier bearing loose--working on that. Who knows what else I'll find before the day is over.

Pulled my hair out in frustration with my holley for the final time today. Im sorry, they must make a good product to have such a strong following but MINE is a P.O.S. sick of trying to get it to keep tuned. Ordered a Edelbrock 1404, I hear its the way to go for brain dead people like me. Anyone want a Holley??!?! (im not offering to sell it admins plz don't delete)

Adjusted my rear brakes, primer my drums getting ready to paint and reinstall tomorrow. Tightened my exhaust at the manifold. Went junk yarding yesterday found a window washer reservoir installed that. Got my doors adjusted, again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Set the cab on the frame for the 2td time.It was around 50 today, so spent some time on in the garage.. had to check some tranny clearances because i found out that my low hump did not work for me..[ replaced it with a high hump] I also wanted to check to see if i had room for my 9" booster and it looks like it will be OK, will have to tweek my pass side header heat sheild and add the driver side sometime this weekend but things are looking good. some of the pics dont show it but the clearance is about 5/8 of an inch on the drivers side and a strong 3/4 of an inch on the pass side from the valve covers to the firewall..

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Wow ;
It's been too long since I checked in ~ My truck is still in the paint jail but the frame's looking mighty fine now , IK went ahead and bought all new MOOG ball joints & tie rods ends , might as well . I've also been out of state and sick as a dog and trying to get some traction on overhauling my '77 292 i6 engine . I am needing to use the crank shaft out of my '64 292 block as the flex plate bolts are larger in the '77 crank and the new flex plate I bought , can't be used on it . Anyway , if it doesn't rain to - morrow I'll run a box full of loose parts down to the shop and spend some time in the solvent tank , then go home and hopefully pull the '77 engine's cylinder head , pistons & rods m, crankshaft etc. , I want to send the rods out for rebuilding and measure the bore for the new pistons , blah blah blah , the usual boring overhaul stuff , I love it so much , I'm old & gray now but I never tire of overhauling . REALLY nice trucks and works I'm seeing here ! .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
This is my first post and I want to say that I appreciate conversing and feeling accepted by other people who can understand why anyone would spend more time and money on a 40+ yr old truck than a late model with less miles and A/C.
Today I purchaded oil, a filter, KAT oil pan heater, and an exhaust gasket. Nothing exciting. But I can say, you know its more than a truck when you'll spend your free time in the winter changing your own oil, installing a heater to prevent cold starts while the heater in the cab has yet be be fixed. Its a mistress. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I am loving the seasonal wall paper ! .
I spent some hours yesterday cleaning 292 engine covers & stuff in the solvent tank and made a serious discovery ~ the 1977 timing chest is *much* thinner steel than is the old 1964 one , there are numerous changes in how it was manufactured too so I'll be taking the extra time to de rust the 1964 one and use it on my '69 . The good thing is : the lighter '77 cover didn't leak atall so it's a good used part , maybe I'll install a new seal and re paint it correct GMC/Chevrolet Red and offer it cheaply on E-ay . I hope to get more tear down works done to - day , the sun is rising so my achy old bones and injuries might give me a break in the pain dept . Truly , these ARE ' Mistresses ' ! . Cheaper and BETTER than any modern truck I can buy .

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
No problem and thank you. Got the triple chrome from ecklers. My mechanics father does the chrome work for them here in Orlando and pointed me in the right direction. Once again I was surprised how well it fit and looked especially after all the nightmare threads I've been reading about aftermarket parts.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Painted and reinstalled my rear hubs took her out for a test drive to test my brake adjustment job and no problems, rear passenger tire did not lock up, couldn't make it pull under hard breaking and she stopped just like it should with no problems.
That's usually a bad omen. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
A bunch of little stuff ..
1) Started chipping away at the cheap respray that's sitting on top of the OG hugger orange paint 2) Restored my gauge cluster. DEciding whether to get a new bezel or keep the sligthly patina'd one I have 3)Pulled out the rear "CHEVROLET" tailgate panel, scraped off all the old chipped/faded/cracking woodgrain decal 4) scuffed up the inner fenders for paint. The PO sprayed them gloss black with a rattle can... |
