Thanks everybody, I put about a 100 miles on it this weekend and I'm loving every second of it. It's good to be back in a truck again. My wife loves it too, it has dual zone climate control so now she can turn up the heat a little on her side when I'm trying to freeze her out Only real plans for it are a bedcover, side steps and of course a exhaust. I'm open to suggestions on the exhaust. If somebody has a preference please chime in. My truck has the 5.3 with afm. Looking for a good quality exhaust that won't have a horrible drone when the afm kicks in.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

I got the Magnaflow dual exhaust for my crew cab and it sounds awesome. I get complements on it all the time. It looks great and took me about 45-60 min to pull the old exhaust off and put the new on. All I used were a couple hand tools, jack, and two jack stands, which aren't even needed but makes it easier to get underneath it. I think this is the part number but if you order it I would first verify it. If I wasn't on the other side of the world for work, I would take a photo of it for you but unfortunately I am.

Thanks for the link, that exhaust is in my top 3 so far along with Borla and Corsa. All of them are pricey but worth it for the quality. One question though, does your truck have the active fuel management where it drops to 4 cylinders. If it does how does the exhaust sound. Any droning issues.

My buddy has a 2012 Silverado, and I helped him install a Borla. Sounds great.

If you want I can see if my girlfriend can take a video of it this weekend or maybe the next.
Thanks I appreciate the offer, I have listened to a ton of clips of the magnaflow exhaust on YouTube so no need to bother her.

I love the s-type cat back but its like $1100.00. I'm not really a fan of the touring exhaust, a little to quiet for my taste especially for the money.

Yeah the 14' silverados and sierras are really nice but where to pricey for me. Plus I didn't want something in the first year of a new model.

Thanks Nate, here is the pic of the backyard. It is decent size and the dogs love it. Will be even bigger if the previous owner ever comes to pick up his swing set.

All depends on what you like. He wanted a decent growl but zero drone on longer drives, and the touring Borla was perfect for what he wanted. It actually sounds very close to the TRD true duals I have on my Tundra.

Well I like them loud and kind of in your face but I don't want to deal with any droning issues either.

got the message, I had Magnaflow on my 02 Roush Mustang and it sounded good. I have always put flowmasters on everything previous to this but just want something different.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Finally chose an exhaust, went with the Borla S-type and all I have to say is it sounds awesome. Definitely happy with my choice. Has a nice rumble when cruising but screams when you get on it. Was exactly what I was looking for. Bought it from streetsideauto.com and with there 10% off borla coupon code they are running, I got it for less than a $1,000.

Looks good. I am close to coming home from this deployment and about to spend a bit of cash on my '09 and my '71. I'm going to do a 3.5" suspension lift and 1.25" body lift, 20" wheels w/ big a$$ tires, fender flares, bumper, and well you know build my redneck 4x4 since I need to fit in here in NC.

The new exhaust looks good.

I went and test drove a '14 and it's got so many features I didn't even know I needed. Haha. It didn't come home with me. Waiting to see that the 3/4 tons look like next year.

The new house looks good too.

What's next for the new truck?

Thanks Nate, yeah the 14's are really nice but was a little out of my price range. I'm really happy with my 13. The next thing I want to do is add some step bars, my wife is 5'1" and is having a good time getting in and out After that I will be done with it for a while.

Thanks for coming along for the ride and I appreciate all the compliments. Haven't had any time for the 68 since we got into the new house, seems like every weekend I have a project to do the house didn't need anything, just changing some things to match our style more. Once everything calms down in a few weeks I hope to get my 68 moved from my brothers to my house and get working on her again. I definitely miss it and it's lighting a fire under my ass to get it done finally.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

So I got some new parts in the mail, this time for my 68 I've been wanting to upgrade the rear brakes to disc for some time now an finally decided to go with the Wilwood D154 with the intergrated parking brake. I know the Wilwood rear doesn't match the McGaughey front kit I have but eventually it will. Someday I plan on upgrading the front to a 6 piston 13" Wilwood kit.

I wanted something with a parking brake and I liked the fact that it uses a 2 piston caliper. I also like that it uses the lokar emergency brake cables and I can ditch the factory stuff. I didn't go with the matching McGaughey rear kit because I don't like the design of it or the fact that I would have had to machine my axles for it to fit. I feel this is something they should have figured out by now. Plus like I said I do plan on upgrading the front to Wilwoods in the future. I plan to finally get working on her again this weekend as I have a lot to do before I can move it from my brothers garage to mine.
