Awesome build! Welcome home from your most recent trip. I spent some time with the 1-150th guys out of Trenton when the 42nd Div deployed in 04-05. Great group of guys.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

They are in our Brigade so we've worked with them from time to time...

Garage might be on hold pending a quote from the contractor on a master suite addition. I decided to go with a 30x40 pole barn with scissor truss' to accomodate a lift. $16,500 installed with concrete, cheap and good quality...

Who did you end up getting a quote from?

multiple places but Fisher Bros. was the best and I know they do quality work. The owner does all of the quotes and had some great recommendations for me. I will go with them when the time comes.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Not sure if anyone is still watching this but I figured that I'd update you on some progress... not truck progress but garage progress which will end up leading to tuck progress, right?

Plans are in order for a 28x36 two car garage with 12' ceilings for a lift. My lot is only 1 acre so I want it to look like a detached garage vs a machine shop. Pole barn guys can't fit me in util late June though I could get it sooner but the others want $500 more...

Here are some pics of the proposed garage... I'd like to go 30x40 but once you break 1,000 sq ft then the township has more building inspection criteria. Plans are for electrical and gas. I should easily be able to fit 3 vehicles plus have a corner for workshop. Also, the house is getting an addition at the same time.

That is going to be a real sweet "shop"/garage. The layout looks real nice. I wish I had gone a bit bigger on my 24x30, but I only have a 1/2 acre and like you I (nor did my neighbors) did not want a commercial looking environment in the back yard. I wish I could have gone taller, but the hurricane standards made it tough to go beyond 10'. After a few storms I am glad I didn't go higher.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

thanks, I use to have 5 acres and could have built anything I wanted... That much land in Central PA isn't financially feasible for most ($50K/acre on avg) so I'll "make do" with a 1,000 sq ft shop... Still better than my 24x24 garage that houses the truck, kids bikes, snowblower, storage and tools...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

I signed my contract for the garage tonight... $16,400 with tray truss' for a lift, another $2,000 for a 28x25 pad on the front for parking and basketball...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Thanks guys, this builder is Mennonite and has a good reputation and great price. I figured that a stick built would be $10,000 more at a min. I could have added vinyl siding ($1K) or shingles for $1,200 but we figure the metal color will be very close to our house.

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Almost done...

This was Day #3, roof installed, tray ceiling for lift in the back.

Today they did the walls and 46 tons of gravel was spread for the barn, 25 foot landing and the driveway...

Should be done in 2 more working days, sad thing is that I have to leave for a trip on Monday

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

new porch and addition were finished as well. Wife is happy but she thinks the shop is too big...

This is the Amish built Timber Frame porch, came out better than I had even imagined...

Very nice. Way better than my simple metal building.

There is no such thing as too big a shop. Woman (ok I mean the person other than the truck nut)!

Wow, that porch is really, really nice. I also like the shop too. The different trusses for the lift is very nice too! That will be nice to have for sure!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Thanks, we're very happy with the porch... Cost about $7500 installed and it was hand built by a local Amishman. Cost me $300 for engineered plans since Hemlock isn't common building code anymore, the pegs are real as well. It's 16x14

The tray truss was about $500 more so I figured it was worth doing "just in case". A lot of guys run scissor trusses but they work better when you have doors on the eave side instead of the gable side like mine.
