Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Part II

OK, finally got around to some pix-
I'm thinking that "CE21034" means 3/4T Longhorn, among other things.
And doesn't "Wht & Hug Org & Wht" mean that the panel between the upper and lower body side moldings is white? Or does it mean that the body is white below the lower molding? I know it had white elsewhere sometime in its youth.

Steeveedee that is one awesome Longhorn you've got there, I love everything about it.
The only truck I regret selling was my '70 Longhorn 402/TH400, Custom Camper, in original paint Dark Blue w/White and I want it back.

BTW it's a Custom Camper, Camper Special is F@#d.

DOH! You're right about the Custom Camper. I'll go fix that in my sig. I got it mixed up with "Custom Sport Truck". I worked for a Chevrolet dealer when these were new, so I should know better, but I was an SS Malibu/Z-28/Corvette whore in those days.

Thanks!

I saw this truck on cl. Happy to see it got into the hands of someone who'll take care of it.

Steeveedee...that is an interesting grill they did for your truck.
I believe for 69/70 your color meant white cab, and white bottom (below the trim)

I think in 71/72 it meant the area between the trim and the roof are white. At lease that is the way I have always seen it.

That's what I was thinking, that the truck was white below the lower molding. I recall from the dim and misty past that that is the way it was before my father-in-law had it repainted. I did a little judicious scraping and still couldn't tell. I prefer the white/orange/white/orange style, but would rather make it look original if I could. I DO remember that the 1971 trucks came that way, as I started working for a Chevy dealership right out of high school, in June of 1970. So the '71 model year trucks would have come out a couple of months later.

I met my wife in 1980, and got married in 1981. 1980's the first time I saw the truck, and as I say, I dimly recall that it was white at the rockers. We just got back from exotic Oxnard, CA, celebrating our 32nd anniversary. I'll have to dig into this some more.

Oh, yeah...my FIL put that grille in there and that's one thing I want to change out for stock. I've never liked it that way.

Awesome! I love how that camper completely fills up the bed all the way to the gate! I would love to see some pics of the inside of that camper and inside of the truck if you have some.

I am the same way about wanting it to look as original as possible most of the time. In this case though, I think I would do the white/orange/white/orange and either put a 71/72 grill back in and no one would know or put a 69/70 grill back in and 99% would never know.

It's the 1% that eats your lunch, true. I fear that I've already tossed some original parts that were unique to the Custom Camper, like the under-hood switch for the camper's deep drain battery. Oh, well. I'll use LED lights in the new camper, and won't need the deep drain battery, anyway.

I'll be getting the '70 grille one of these days. I happen to think that the lower part being white like original that, in this case, says "truck".
The white/orange/white/orange to me says "pretty", which I like on a woman, but not on my truck.

I'll get some photos of the cab interior and the insides of the camper shell eventually, but I'll make them in a new thread, so the new guys don't keep getting written over. Lots of cleanup and work on the interior and inside the camper, but I got it for free, so I can't complain too much...except free means he died to give it to me. Bummer, on that account, he was really a nice guy.

Yeah, I ain't worried about them either tho. A man's truck is his to do with as he pleases. Noone else has to like it. I like the original look but in my case a year newer grill or paint scheme does not take away too much. If I ever get the money and get around to it, I think I'm going to leave my grill '69 and go with the '71/'72 two tone paint scheme.

Re: How about some pics of 67-72 Part II

Yeah the beveled end of the trim goes to the front. Its just the door pieces that are like that, so it doesnt catch the fender when you open the door. Ive seen a lot of trucks with it mounted upside down. They are easy to mix up because they are the only two interchangable pieces. Easy fix tho. Pop off the door panel and take the nuts off the studs holding it on.
