Three days of dirty, hard work. The old undercoating is GONE. Spray on bed liner has been ordered.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
I drove it 50 miles last night, making for about 500 this month. I really need to get back to work on it, but I like driving it so much that I hate to take it apart.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Got back to work on the 62 a bit more Sunday afternoon and tried to finish up the PS A pillar area repairs.
The floor patch didn't meet the firewall very well so I cut that out and made a small patch to marry the two. I got a little loose with the cut-off wheel, so I had a pretty good gap in spots to close on the kick-panel patch but IT'S IN! Still need to knock it all down a bit and touch up some small "light leaks", but it's getting there. Front fender bracket was finally able to be bolted down too... putting parts back on just feels so right. Happy Holiday to all you who labor to make this the greatest place on earth! I decided to continue the "wax on-wax off" drill on the tailgate. Got some of the rust off and a fresh coat of Mothers to give it a little shine.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
TJ , that thread on" 292 had a bad day " didn't scare you? Bravo. By the way I was "locked up and semi-sideways" when the car in front of me decided to stop at a yellow light. Glad no one was behind me. The tire smoke was of a bad nature.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Stopped it right spank at 5000(was to afraid to go any higher)....then shifted and floored it again. This engine has a character of its own...sometimes it won't got over 4300 before it redlines...meaning rpm's bounce..or won't go higher..an most of the time she'll climb right up to 5000. My new rebuilt 292 will be easily capable of 5000, but will do 6000... I'm not gonna try it...I don't think. No, I believe ya...these newer 6 bangers will do up to 4000 easily....4000 for mine is no issue at all...its after 4500+ when my blood pressure kicks up a hair...especially when I remind myself that those age ol stock 703 gram pistons just did 5k and didn't fly off. lol!

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Did an oil change, swaped out the speedo cable. Went to get some beer and when I came out she wouldnt start, no lights no radio nothing. Checked the battery cables all good. Hit the horn it works. Turned out to be the fire wall plug had come lose no biggie.
Got home and decided to swap out my grill an 8 bolt job that took an hour! ( dont ask ) If that wasnt bad enough i squashed my eye glasses . On the plus side by the time I was done the beers were ice cold.

The GM 292 dyno chart actually ended at 4,200; the 250 chart went up to 4,400 (gross HP peaks were 4,000 and 4,200, respectively). I don't think there's any doubt one will wind up to there, I just meant that the internet seems to enjoy clips of people trying to drop valves or put rods through blocks. I think it might have also been a coincidence earlier with mine seeming to float something @ 4,700; I wound it to 4,800 today checking something and didn't notice it. I really probably should quit acting like a tree fell on my head, though... Non-OT content: I wound it to 4,800 while checking how it sounded after finally cobbling a turnout onto the exhaust from some scrap laying around. No more deafening drone! Much better... |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Today I sprayed on the bed liner. Bought it from TCPGlobal through Amazon.com. Four litres in the kit but I only needed 2 litres. That means I have extra for the under side of the inner fenders and rear fenders if I want to go that route. Super easy to spray on with the schutz gun supplied.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Went to a small car show this afternoon and won the best display of rust award. Lol. Folks loved the old rig and the carbs on the engine. Surprised a lot of folks with the fact it was all original and found out that my original dealership the truck was sold at changed names and moved down the block in Tacoma, so Monday I'll call and see if they can track the truck through past records. Here's the award. Lol. I know, I know, the award says 2006 but they recycle old awards no one wants. Still, first show and first award for the old girl.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
Drove it 6 hours (round trip) to a truck meet on Louisiana. I think we had 11 trucks. Just 2 from our years, My 64 & 65streetcruiser's 65. Good food, great firends today. A little shower didn't seem to bother us either.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.
I made these bed rails this morning. Took me about an hour. Wasn't thinking and bought 8' lumber, should have gotten 10' stock so that it would hang past the end and I could have dog-eared the top pieces. I also had to finish nail them together instead of being able to use the expensive stainless carriage bolts that I bought. I'm going to make another set later with nicer wood. Without the stainless, these cost just over $20 to make. Used "furring strips" since they were rounded on the edges and rough cut cedar for the stakes.
Didn't really have a plan, just kind of threw it up there. I think it turned out alright though, considering. What think ye?
