Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
The wife and I spent the weekend in south La visiting our daughter. We were in the Yukon. Yesterday the trans shifter cable popped off the gear lever on the trans and I used some zip ties to get our daughters home. I went to O'Reillys and picked up a new bushing/keeper for it and installed it this morning before heading out coming home. Just over half way home we stopped for gas and food and it popped off again leaving the truck in neutral. I pushed it away from the fuel pump and slid under it to try to zip tie it again but it was too freakin hot to touch so I know they wouldn't stay on long. So I did what any gear head worth his salt would do and grabbed a clothes hanger and cut a piece to wrap around the deal to get us home. I don't carry bailing wire. but the coat hanger got us home. I'll make a better fix tomorrow when the thing has fully cooled off.

We took my mom to Summit Hotel in PA for lunch on her 91st birthday. I never went there before. It's along US40/Old National Pike and is very historic. Has a great view to the west, but you can look back to the mountains to the east as well. built 1907

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Didn't work on Ol Blue but on the daily driver. It needed a fuel pump and I hate dropping the tank. So I got creative. It was a lot easier...

Ol Blue,
I did that same trick last November replacing the rubber fuel filler from the tank to the filler in the bed side on a 1991 model. It wasn't my favorite day for sure.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
It was a lot easier than dropping the half full tank. I used my engine hoist to move the bed. It took less than 4 hours including cold snack breaks...

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Went to DMV to turn in the plates plates from my Chevelle and transfer plates from the Avanti to it ,the Chevelle has been in the garage for 3 years unused and the plates expired . Tried to renew online but NY has a law that if the registration is expired over a year you cant renew them. And to top it off they have a drop box in the lobby you can only do certain transactions in person with an appointment. Which does not include registrations and plate surrenders
So I walk in only about a handful of people , I asked the info clerk questions about if I had to turn in the plates and wait for the receipt before I could transfer the plates. She say wait one moment goes an talks to another clerk waves me up to the counter and she did everything right on the spot . A pleasurable experience at DMV is rare

I dropped mine with 1/4 tank of gas. Not a fun job. I was lucky, mine gave me warnings. It did the "hard start" issue where the check valve fails? so there's no initial pressure for start up.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Nice! For the most part, they're actually really good fuel pumps... just a total PIA to replace. I've seen on the 3rd and 4th gen camaro/birds they're so difficult to remove the tank people cut holes in the floor and add a panel back over it.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
So technically it's not "on" the truck.
I assembled a new bed cover from Craftec for my stepside. The frame went together quite easily. Getting the cover on the frame was a whole different ballgame. I had to enlist the help of my wife and a bunch of four letter words. I will say it is on there quite taught. I am hoping to take the truck to the Finger Lakes in a couple weeks. It's about a 4.5 hour drive. I've done 3 hour trips with it but this would be the longest trip. I need to get a spare tire jack etc..My wife is a little nervous about taking a 37 year old truck that far. |

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
That's so funny. I was fighting bedbolts yesterday to do that very thing. I managed to get 235,000 miles out of my pump, but it doesn't see high temperatures very often. I did a little checking and I'm going back with an AC Delco EP377 to get a little more fuel pressure. I had never given it much thought, but I have read that it's not great to run the pumps below a quarter of a tank due to heat. I'm also going to try to keep it topped up when it's in the high 80s or the 90s here. I forgot that the pumps are in the tank to cool them, not just make them quieter. And if the pump is getting hot, then it's heating the fuel too, which probably doesn't help performance. The OBS trucks supposedly benefit from having a little bit more pressure. We will soon see. Did you guys go back in stock with the EP386 or an aftermarket replacement? Ol Blue, sounds like yours is running well now.

I bought my wife a used Yukon Denali today. Going to Phoenix to pick it up Monday. Was hoping to wait a little while for all the used car madness to calm down but her Grand Cherokee started giving us problems last week and left her stranded for an hour or so. At 215K I decided we have gotten our money’s worth and it was time for something newer. ( I paid $500 for it back in 2011 or so with 112K on it) been an excellent vehicle for almost all of our marriage. Time to move on though. The new to us Yukon is really nice. I was afraid I may have to let go of my Camaro but we were able to keep it and reasonably do both. The Camaro is really close to being paid off, and my baby alongside my K20. All I can say is used car shopping sucks a million times more than normal these days. As soon as they are listed for sale they seem to be gone. I bought this one before it had even been detailed as it was traded in Thursday, I got the financing figured out yesterday and made the down payment over the phone today. In that time the Salesman I’ve been working with said that 6 people have tried to buy it since yesterday afternoon. Pictures to come when I pick it up Monday.
