Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait
Yes,...I have a Burb problem.
Driving around the small towns just North of Memphis, we were amazed at the quantity of regular cab short bed trucks running around with solid rockers and cab corners. Even beat to crap farm trucks had good rockers and corners. For those of us that live north of the St. Louis, MO - Louisville, KY line, it is startling. Like seeing a unicorn almost. Probably saw 12 trucks we wanted to take home. |

Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait
Grandson approved!
While the paint on top is toasted, underneath it looks like a 2 year old truck around here. Clean, solid, no body rust, very little surface rust on springs etc. We had to have it as it looks like the little brother to our Dually. |

OK, this is about building a 48 Suburban and you probably know why my heart hasn’t been in the build. Starting to get my head back in that game (got to since I bought two more projects in last month....honey I promise this is the last one) Still looking at accessory drives and I was really liking the new Holley mid-mount. There was an article in the current edition of Street Rodder on installing in an AD truck. It fits, stays out of the inner fenders and has good clearance up front too. If you haven’t seen it, check out some details here... https://www.holley.com/products/acce...s/parts/20-185 |

Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait
Thanks guys!
Burb was on FB for sale, so I messaged the seller asking if he would call me to discuss. No, he said. I don’t do phone calls. I don’t understand, I’m interested in your Burb. He responded we could handle everything through FB messenger, then sent a ton of pictures and video. He quickly answered every question, and every request for pictures. We messaged settling on a price and when to pick up. He couldn’t be there then, so he said he would leave the burb, keys and signed title out by the road. If I decided I wanted it, just hide the money in his garage somewhere and take the burb. Very trusting...or scamming? Google street view matched the pics of the burb back ground. And I verified vehicle wasn’t stolen. Turns out his Dad lives next door so I could leave the money with him. Seller explained he is better able to keep track of questions and agreements in writing through messenger. First time I’ve purchased a vehicle never speaking with or meeting the owner. |

sounds more like an introvert, some people arent cut out for human interaction. I went to lunch with a big group of guys and the guy next to me wouldnt even tell the waitress she had his pepsi while she was standing right behind him saying "come on, who had the pepsi?" although his reasoning is sound, keep it in writing, dont get stabbed!

The reactions I am getting from friends and family about this 90 Burb are interesting. Family is so yawn...Doug brought home another one. Brother totally perplexed, even though he is a bit of a car guy. My car buddies get it. When I graduated high school a tri five chevy was 22 to 24 years old. This one is 28 years old. And our first new Burb was a 90. We loved it and had been looking for a solid one. Quote:

It's not a problem if you can admit it. Nice Burb!

Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait
Thanks Steven, yes I admit it.
Seat mounting...apparently I really dislike seat mounting as this is what I was doing when I stopped. No problem changing engine and transmission mounts 4 or 5 times...as I did on this build. Yet a seat mount stops me cold. Now if I could just get Marc to come down and fab up the mounts. He knocked his out in a few hours I think. Locations are laid out already Marc. |

If it makes you feel better I failed to notice when I drilled my holes for the front mounts that they just catch the back edge of my "custom" boxed floor brace. Had I known, I could have moved the brace a 1/4" forward and had no issues. I now have made more work for myself. Marc

Thanks Mike! I suppose there is some “ok” information buried in there with the rest of my yackity yack posts. While I need to get focused and back on it, this time of year there are so many other things to do too.

Guys, thanks for checking in, staying in touch and especially for the kind thoughts / prayers for my wife. Hi Doug,
It has been along time since I checked in. I was saddened to hear that you wife's cancer had returned, I pray that she recovers quickly. It is good to see that you have a couple of helpers. -Richard

Yesterday an 81 year old friend of mine stopped by for a visit. He is a retired mechanic and when I was a teen I would hang out at his shop asking a million questions. He asked if I knew anyone who wanted to buy his 78 ElCamino he has owned for 30 years. Always stored inside and rock solid. I had to stop by his place to check it out. If I wanted an ElCamino, this would be a nice one to get. |
