Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Kees, I know zero about brakes on a 35 Ford though I am sure someone here will step up.
Good luck on the wagon! |

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thnx Doug!
The brakes aren’t really the problem, it’s more about the difference between the year of make in the spindles...late ‘35 to ‘36-‘37.... We sorted the rear brakes out already.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
New to this forum, and just finished reading a couple of builds.
Kees I love your stick-to-itiveness, especially with your header issues. I would have probably given up after header #3 and put the problem on a shop to figure out, so I salute you. I also love that you and your son are involved in this car culture thing that we love. I read somewhere that only half the kids nowadays bother to get their license before age 18… it’s not about Ford vs. Chevy, its which smart phone, Apple or Android. Anyway, great work, and stay healthy… John from CA. |

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thank you John for your kind words and taking time to read my little overseas build!
Taking things to a shop to solve problems is not my thing, always do it my way. Sometimes that is a bad thing Your right about the kids these days, I guess I’m lucky! It took him a few years to get really interested in the hobby, but now he goes with me whenever he has time Yesterday we went to see a ‘57 Chevy Wagon together, a roundtrip of 300 miles, good times!! The Chevy didn’t fell through tho... The rivalty between Ford and Chevy, Well I never understood that anyway, we are in the same hobby, right? And Thanks about staying healthy....probably not gonna happen, but I’ll do my best!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Yeah, I'm lucky as well, both my son and stepson own older cars. Recently I was looking for a tri-5 2door wagon and/or either a 53 to 56 Ford Stepside or a 55 to 59 Chevy truck and wound up (3weeks ago) with a 55 Chevy Stepside. I've owned over 40 cars in my life and if I see something older and still on the road no matter what make or model I'm grinning ear to ear.
It's cool that you have meets with older American cars there in Holland. Years ago I was in Amsterdam and saw a "Rockford Files" style Pontiac Firebird with a big crowd of people around it, which was cool. |

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Yeah, we get lots of attention with our old cars.
But I think, or am sure, that the car culture we have here, is nothing compared with the carculture in the USA. Always nice to meet likeminded people!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Are those bicycle lanes to the left and the right?
Good start on the electrical! And I hope we don’t get any more snow here...Saturday was enough! |

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Yes, those are bicycle lanes. This is in the “polder”, don’t no how you you call this, land that is being made out of water/lakes.
It is a 35 mph zone, we have lots of them in the country. You are very right about the snow, the temperature can rise now.... Electrics are going Well. I use so many relays because we wanted to use the original switches. They are intended for 6Volts, now we use the switches to control the relays, at 12 Volts. All new wiring goes in as well, homemade. Did this before and works great! Have to wire for a few days at my speed, but it comes along. For the brakes, there is a difference in spindles from 1935 and 1936/37, so with upgrades brakes we have to use newer spindles as well. Rear we must use new hubs and drums (brakeshoes were ordered wrong by that shop,so we can’t use the original drums anymore), for the front we are in doubt for drums or discs. I lean towards discs...but it not my car unfortunatly.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
No update today, it comes in the near future, on the ‘35...
I have a question for the members living in the Los Angeles or Las Vegas area. We, my son and I are in LA from April 10 until April 13. We stay three days in Culver City for the night. Try to see a lot of things Santa Monica, Malibu Beverly Hills, all we can do April 13/14 we are in Pomona and visit the Pomona Swapmeet, and after that we’re of to Vegas until April 22. On April 25 we fly back to Holland, from Los Angeles again. Is there a member who can help me out? I want to buy a camshaft kit from Lunati. They sell it at Jegs and Summit, and ofcourse at Lunati. But they all have no shop in the area we are at. I have emailed the SoCal Speedshops in LA and in Vegas, but no answer yet. Some said to sent it to the motel or hotel where we stay, but I don’t know if that is a good idea... Maybe if there is some one living in that area who is willing to help me out, please send me a PM and we can try to work something out? Or any other tips are very welcome too! Thanks!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Ok guys, problem probably solved.
I did get an email from SoCal LA last night, after two and a half weeks So if the price is not too much different from Lunati, I pick it up there. If not, well, you’ll hear me again Thanks!

Thanks Steve!
If he has a friendships discount that’s worth taking a D-Tour... Riverside was not on our route, but who knows?

Thank you Steve!!
Unfortunaly it did not work out, if it was more on my route, I sure did get it there. Thank you for asking him and spending your time on me!! Appreciate it!! So if anybody lives in LA, Santa Monica, Culver City, Pomona or in that area, or in Las Vegas and want to help....? Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
I use to live up in the Culver City/West LA area years ago, but am south by 1 hour. There are a few members on here that live in that area. Might try to message this member.

I really don’t want to spam the fellow members on here. If they want to help out, I’m sure they contact me. Also got already contact with an highly appreciated member who is willing to help, but is also a bit off the route. Few hours D-tour, back and forth. The first three days I’m in Culver City, so if there is some one living in that area, or Santa Monica, Inglewood maybe or Pomona, where we are late Saturday afternoon and visit the Swapmeet April 14, that would save me a few hours
