Re: Nik's 62 build
Not a great pic but here it is with the nuts tightened down. All I need to do is bend and flare 3 short pieces of brake line and the brake system will be complete other than calipers and rubber brake hoses.

Re: Nik's 62 build
Also made the clutch pedal stops. One for setting the return height, and one for preventing the master cylinder from bottoming out. They are both adjustable in both directions.

Here is the clutch pedal set to the same height as the brake pedal.

Re: Nik's 62 build
Nice job on the power steering lines! Sure is nice when you can make the stuff you already have work.

Re: Nik's 62 build
Got a little time today to mount those hooks I got from the blue 61 one ton cab, I mounted them in the same location they were on the 61, not sure if they're gm or not, but they're certainly era correct.

Re: Nik's 62 build
Also made some more progress on my dads burb, since we could not find a suburban door he bought these pickup doors a while back and I already repaired the lower rust. As you can see the window frame is a completely different shape, the burb is square and the pickup is rounded.

Re: Nik's 62 build
Since the old rusted out suburban doors still had good window frames and glass I cut the window frames off and removed the glass. The suburban frames were welded into the pickup door, quite simple actually. My uncle (an ex bodyman) assisted with fitting the glass and lining everything up so the door gaps are equal everywhere.

Re: Nik's 62 build
Real nice work Nick.It has been a while since I seen someone convert a truck door to a burb door (or vice versa).

Today I went to go treasure hunting at my favourite little junkyard again and found this 64-66 swb stepside laying way in the back on a mountain of old rims. The cab was actually completely rust free, but unfortunately the roof was screwed up terribly. I grabbed a few parts from it. Last edited by 62stepside longbox; 04-12-2017 at 10:16 AM. |

Re: Nik's 62 build
The main thing I got from it was this set of west coast style mirrors. They were in pretty good shape but just filthy.

The backsides, the arms will still need to be stripped and painted white.

Re: Nik's 62 build
Mirrors look nice! I wish there were junkyards that still had old trucks here.

Thanks fellas, and yes they are! Thanks and yes this is the only one around here that I know of. This one has some especially neat stuff, such as this original 4x4 gmc cab.

Re: Nik's 62 build
Nick, I love the way you just quietly get on with stuff.
Changing the rounded door frames to square is really genius, and you guys did well there. West coast mirrors, I love them. Not right for my trucks style, but they always look great. Glad you found a good set, for presumably sensible money.
