The GM 292 dyno chart actually ended at 4,200; the 250 chart went up to 4,400 (gross HP peaks were 4,000 and 4,200, respectively). I don't think there's any doubt one will wind up to there, I just meant that the internet seems to enjoy clips of people trying to drop valves or put rods through blocks.

I think it might have also been a coincidence earlier with mine seeming to float something @ 4,700; I wound it to 4,800 today checking something and didn't notice it. I really probably should quit acting like a tree fell on my head, though...

Non-OT content: I wound it to 4,800 while checking how it sounded after finally cobbling a turnout onto the exhaust from some scrap laying around. No more deafening drone! Much better...
I was in the middle of a burnout..so it didn't hold 5 grand...it was bouncing between 4700 and 5000 then we let off and floored it again..shifted at 5000 and off we go. lol! I think now I may have slightly bent something...the rocker arms toward the rear are making a little more noise then they use to....and the engine pops air out the exhaust like its gotta burned up valve. lol! Ah well...newly hotrodded rebuilt 292 will be in there in place of it shortly! But it won't quite be the same feel as a 47 year old 292 doing 5 grand. lol! Least I won't have to worry about an explosion...I hope.

Without the stainless, these cost just over $20 to make. Used "furring strips" since they were rounded on the edges and rough cut cedar for the stakes.

Didn't really have a plan, just kind of threw it up there. I think it turned out alright though, considering. What think ye?

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Installed my low floor transmission cover that was trashed when I got the truck... looks a bit better now. PO had hacked the firewall area up good to make a 4 speed work so had to deal with that too. Sealed the pan with 3/8th's windshield butyl in the beaded groove of the cover and seam sealed it all when I got it bolted down.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Ok, here I go.... Purchased a 78 rolling chassis to switch out the hacked up torsion front end on my 60 short wide... Going with a triangulated four link in the back, the 12 bolt off the 78 is a 3.42?, 2.5 drop spindles in the front. The power steering setup off the 78, brakes etc.. Any recommendations for a posi for the 12 bolt, or anything else I need to be aware of? Oh plus airbags...

Huh, weird. It does sound like something decided it didn't like that, though! One of the reasons I try to not do stuff like that too often with tired stuff of unknown origin...probably still do it too much.

Back to the thread again, I drove mine 115 miles today to pick up some parts for my Impala.

I also repainted the hubcaps for a more OE appearance yesterday.

Took it from a low hump

To a high hump and slapped some paint down. Also removed tank and brackets. Did most of the work last weekend, finished it up today.

Anybody know why the cab floor has that squarish pressed divot on the rear passenger side of the trans hump?

That will be nice! Love those brakes, and the rack will be nice. Should quicken up the steering quite a bit. So you're 5 in the back and 6 in the front? I'm just reverse lol. 5 in front 6 in rear.

I Don't know the answer to your question wondering myself. Mine had a hole I welded up. Your floor looks awesome man. I love how you didn't paint the hump bolts gives some added detail.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Been really busy with our truck the past few weeks. Yesterday I was able to get all the wood cut and mocked up. Now I need to decide on If I want to go with a clear polyurethane or a pecan stain/poly.

Also got new emblems put on. I have a question about that though. My originals had a red "10" with chrome background. My new ones that I ordered were red background and chrome "10". Which were right? It is possible that mine were wore down and the previous owner dressed them up so I don't know which was correct.

Also got the tailgate sprayed. A little while out in this heat has that paint dried in just a little while.

And just for a bonus pic the other day I got the grill support and bumper painted up.
