Re: 1969 Short Wide
I haven't commented on your thread before but I've been following along. You're in that real tedious stage where progress gets slow and it takes more hours than you ever plan for to get it where you want it. Just keep pushing through. End of the year is creeping up fast.

X100 Always awesome quality work and Mike is a great guy and very humble in person too. I always come back to his thread when I need to find the right way to do something. I am going to start a petition to add a sixth star to this build

Re: 1969 Short Wide
You been doin' the Lord's work! We put a Repop gate on Yeller, we've dented it twice and are considering finding an OEM gate. Lotsa good work here! I looove my Durablocks but found them too flexy on the long panels, so I taped a 2x4 to the back of my longest one, worked like the bomb! You shooting this at Kyle's?

I have had real good luck with my long board. It works great on the long areas. I hope to shoot it in Kyle's booth. I want to get the inside panels all painted first so all I have left is the final outside painting. But I may end up doing all of it there? It really depends on how busy he is when I'm ready. The real problem for me is I have no where to store the finished panels except on the truck. I have some other stuff going right now that's keeping me from finishing the cab for paint. Always some kind of delay..... |

This has kept me busy the last week or so:
Still have some work to do but it will work for transporting my panels. It needed a bunch of work. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
That's how I did it- Did all the Jambs and cut-ins, then trailered the while thing to the booth. Put the Bed on a cart, masked up the cab/doghouse and had at it. Worked pretty good.

Thanks Mark, Yeah I found a pair on craigs, then a single. I really only need to replace one more and finish the rock guards. It can be used like it is now. |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
I've been really busy on the project the last week or so. (Pictures soon), not much real progress but some is better than none. Wanted to share some trucks I've seen lately at my friend screamingchevypickup's shop:

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Here's what I've been working on, I made some sheetmetal mounts for my Vintage Air system. I really didn't like the ones that came with it. Next, I needed a bracket to mount my PCM up under the dash so I fabricated this one. It took me a few tries, and numerous hours, but I got one I'm happy with the outcome.
Vintage Air mounts, fabricated from 316 Stainless: Shown mounted PCM Bracket work, I made this piece first: Here's where it's going to mount: Made a cardboard templet: Welded up the prototype: Notice the weld is broken in this one: Had to tweak it a little.... Final design: Upper bracket machined from one piece Started install: Nut plate on the back side: Finally Mounted: Shown with connectors installed. It's still visible but not too bad. Once I route the wires on the modified harness I think it will work good. This is what I started working on next: |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Thanks Steve. We can always cock our heads under to look at it.
I almost forgot, there will be another bracket to secure it at the back side near the firewall. I'm sure it won't need it with the beefy size of the main bracket but just in case the vibrations stress the sheet metal we won't get cracked.... |

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Are you going to be able to get your A/c ducting through there?

Yeah it's going to be tight, but it will route right up here if I planned it right:

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Thanks, I know it's a little overkill but I've had this thought in my head for a while so I just had to try to make it. I have access to scrap aluminum too which is pretty handy. If I can't find the pieces I need I just pick them up on eBay. A real cheap source.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Kyle had me a little worried so I double checked the A/C duct routing. A little tight with the cluster installed, but I believe it will work good.
Next I started prepping to paint the bottom of the bed and tubs: Painted - single stage urethane cheap and easy: Lined with Raptor liner: |

It doesn't seem like that long ago your truck was at this point Mark.
Mike, it's great to see so much progress. All you lack is finishing up.

Re: 1969 Short Wide
Thanks Mark. Yeah, I will be shooting a test run of some paint soon. Maybe as early as next week.
Thanks Dan. It only took about 10 hours Quote:
It was just this time last year if I remember right. He knocked it out quick. I hope to do the same. Finishing is the hard part. Quote:
