Those would look good with the stock style hubcaps

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Made shock mounts and welded them on, and had the tool and die end of shop turn me up some stainless blinker and tilt arms.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Removed the windshield, wire brushed the channels, primered the windshield area, primered the dash and front top inside metal. Now I will not have to sand with a new windshield in place. Will have it installed tomorow.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Started cleaning the disassembled front end pieces in preparation for a de-rusting bath. Holy kerschnockers, this stuff is filthy! Comet and a scrub brush ain't gonna cut it.

Is there anything, like an engine degunker, that I can spray and on, let sit, then pressure wash off?

EDIT: Just did some googling. Looks like I need Wax & Grease Remover, right?

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

sorry, purple power. it's about $20 a gallon. a paint scrapper{ I get the ones with a point on one side and a radius on the other} works good to get the thick stuff off. get the thick stuff off first then degreaser.

Simple green cut 50 percent, wire brush, scrapers and elbow grease. Usually need to power wash a couple times. It's a lot nicer to the critters and environment too.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Test fit my new 22 inch steelies on both trucks. Decided they make them look like crop sprayers and will need major lowering and fender widening.

contacted a guy on craigslist about a set of 22 inch tires for my wifes 02 suburban, when i went to look at them he had another set still mounted on black 6 lug steelies. i told him i would give him the asking price for the ones already mounted rather then the ones advertised. they are 22x9, looks likethey have 2009 or new gm tire pressure sensors. i painted them with ppg spectraflame/ hotwheels antifreeze green.

the black 48 gmc truck is on a 2000 4wd chevy tahoe chassis and drivetrain. the grey chop top 49 gmc is all original except the top. 48 wouldnt set all the way down due to fender, 49 is sitting on the ground but rust build up around the base of the hub( or 3 inch center bore is too smal) prevented the wheel mounting flush agianst the drum and studs are too short for a spacer small spacer that would make it roadworthy.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Ok i made fake bead rolls for my toeboard patch. I don't have a good way to roll the flat bottom beads so i made some out of 1/8" flat stock. they will be plug welded from the inside and i will use seam sealer to blend and seal them.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

More homework.

The truck is about an hour away at my buddy's shop. It will be there until the heavy lifting in done. At present, I can only work on it on Saturdays. However, I can obsess over it whenever I choose.

The upside of this obsessing is that I'm spending quite a bit of time reading, pondering and planning. The scope of the project has expanded significantly. But oddly enough, the budget has not.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Final refinishing of the bed wood has begun! Left pic is where we started. Right pic is the underside. Bottom pic is the underside (which will now be the top side) after about an hour of pressure washing and a good belt sanding. The wood was then bleached, repairs made and now the final finishing has begun. Several coats and lots of sanding to be done, but we're getting there! I will post a before/during/after montage when it's all done. It won't be perfect, but it WILL look a hell of a lot better and have a little character. Not trying to have a show truck, just one that reflects a labor of love...
