Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Truck is finally coming back together. Got my brakes finished and working. Next is painting the column and dash. Will be nice to drive the truck after taking it apart 6 years ago. The chrome valve covers are just temporary, going to replace them with Fabbed covers. 463 cubic inch Pontiac with a Lunati Vodoo cam.

Got to love that Pontiac power and Kauffman aluminum heads to boot. Nice truck. Of course not only am I a Chevy C10 nut I also own a 1962 Pontiac Catalina, Ventura interior, 8 lugs, 4SPD and Tri-Power too. Not a factory Tri-Power car but that's what I want.

Thanks!

You need to cut out pretty much all the lower hump using that inside line you see and leaving that ~1.5" lip, I left a little extra metal and trimmed back with a grinder and fit checked constantly as I went. Then you need both parts of the high hump, the upper part gets spot welded to the firewall, then the lower bolt on high hump part gets installed, drill all the holes out, weld on new square nuts to the bottom of floor board. I also had to make a couple small panels to cover the stock shifter hole and trans brake hole in the bolt on high hump cover. then just some seam sealer and silicone to seal it all up.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

This weekend I got the dynamat put down in the cab, still need to do the doors.

Then the carpet came in Saturday via Fed Ex, bought from stock interiors and this is the plush carpet. It fit very well, pretty pleased with it.

Trimmed in.

Oh, and I also installed those Honda door seals, they fit sweet..

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Well after realizing that I ordered the steel strips instead of the stainless I realized that I would have to paint my strips to keep them from rusting. I was going to go with a slightly darker "pecan" stain on the bed wood but with them being painted I liked the lighter wood so I went with a clear.

I had never done anything like this before and I know buying the kit may have been easier but this way was a lot cheaper and I do take some satisfaction in knowing that we did this all ourselves.

That said......glad to be done with the bed. That is a crap load of bolts to put in. I still have to do the bed to frame bolts and the very front row of bolts but other than that its done.

I'd also like to know how it went. I need to do the upper skin on my 64. How did you remove the donor skin? Also what is the best method for doing that?

hello I hadn't got a chance to prime and install the skin yet,but I cut the roof from the donor at the a and b pillars. when I removed the roof skin I used a spotweld cutter on the skin where it overhangs the w/s only because I also used the donor overhang also the green one in the photo.everywhere else I ground out the spot welds on the underside of the rain gutter to keep a complete flange around the skin.its a fairly simple but time consuming process.when the skin is loose be careful handling it, it is very flimsy especially around the front.good luck.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

continued on with my bed install... since i cut down a long bed i por-15'd all the edges and then went over them with some satin black. Also started drilling and filing the square holes I lost when cutting down the strips. Got the 9 at the front done so I was able to mount the front panel. I used some vinegar to remove the plating on the carriage bolt heads so they match all the originals now.. Couldn't quit for the day without propping up one of the bedsides to take a look. First time I've seen what my truck will look like with a bed
