Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

As if I havnt already had enough setbacks already.....then this happens...
I laid my dewalt grinder ,with a cutoff disc on it, down on the work table..somehow the trigger got mashed and it took off and bounced off the vise ,right into the back of my hand..
It dug into my "bird" finger, across the knuckle, and up the back of my hand...
Xrays show it broke the side off my knuckle...10 stitches later and this is what I wound up with..
Will it ever end?......
Got appointment with bone dr to see how much damage there is..
I'll spare yall the pic of the actual wound..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

AWWWH SHIZ! I hate grinder wounds! And that looks serious! I hope you heal fast and may your bones be safe. My wife is one of those scaredy cat types so she is always making me wear safety glasses etc. She caught me changing blades on my 4" grinder one day with it still plugged in and I am still hearing about it years later. Me and the old grinder have faced off before and it always won. The one I have now is almost an act of god to turn on and so far so good. Good luck with your wounds!

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Thanks JJ,
seems like the machines always win dont they...
This grinder has the paddle switch on it and the little " kickstand" you have to flip..
Somehow all that got engaged and it took off..

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

I had one of those type but quickly realized the potential for injury by inspecting my injury. Good while they are in your hands for control, out of your hands, out of control. Now I have the good old push real hard to turn on, stays on, until your right in the middle of grinding and it shuts itself off.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

mongo,
This is NOT the update I clicked here expecting. Heal up quickly.

I've considered one of those paddle type grinders because I thought it would be nice to have sort of a "dead man" type switch should it ever jump out of my hands. Never considered laying it down and it trying to jump back into my hands.

Anyone that has used a side grinder any length of time will have stories to tell about injuries. I sanded a knuckle smooth last year, had my finger go around the wire wheel about 1100 times trying to adjust the guard with it running. That second one was stupid on my part trying to do something too quickly.

Take care, heal up, and persevere.

Oh no! Thanks for not sharing the "before" pic. That sounds awful

So far, the worst I've done with a tool is shoot myself in the hand with a nail gun, about 10 years apart. Both times I has holding a board on the backside and the nail was longer than expected...

Man, so sorry to see and hear about your injury! Those death wheels are no joke. I try to make sure I lay my grinders with the power trigger up and the wheel away from everything. I've gotten bitten by those mean sob's many times. A couple of weeks ago I got to close to a flap wheel with my index finger and it ripped my finger nail right in half. That smarted lots!

Ouch!!! Sorry to hear you got injured, that's never fun! I broke my right index finger and crushed my thumb working on the big truck and since my job is physical and requires both hands, I had to be off for 6 weeks. Praying for your fast recovery and a good report today from the bone doc!

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Man that sucks. I almost asked how the progress was going a couple days ago.

I am jealous of your ortho appointment tme. I have an appointment set up for my shoulder and it was almost 3 months out with 6 weeks to go . Since I set the appointment I think I tore the rotator cuff. To add insult to the injury I need to soldier through to get the wifes work vehicle back up and running. She snapped a camshaft so I was in the middle of a motor swap when it let go. Good luck on your injury and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Thanks bigd... that sucks..its a helpless feeling when you can only use one hand..gives you a new respect for disabled folks..
Thanks bo...
I've been screwing around with wiring still...was just about to update all that, then this happened..
Way back then, blinkers were optional..even though the truck has the signal lever ,none of it was ever hooked up..the AA wire kit has all the blinker stuff built into it,but relys on the oem blinker circuit to drop out the brake light so itll blink..
I changed the front bulb socket out from a 1156 to a 1157..so that solved the fronts..it gives me a parking light and a blinker light
Its appears if the truck came with blinkers that it had a extra set of lights on the rear for blinkers..i didn't want to add extra lights..i wanted to keep a single light...so have been trying to come up with a solution..
I think what's gonna happen is I'll add a couple of normally closed relays for the brake lights to run thru..
Then the blinker wire going to the rear will fire the relay ,causing each light to blink..
I drew a layout of how I'll hook it up..I'll add a pic of it...if anyone sees a issue with it , let me know..

the temps and humidity dropped some last week and I planned to paint the doors..I got them in final prime the other night, then it got hot again..its supposed to cool off some next week so maybe I can get them painted..
