Re: Pops 72 cheyenne dropmember build
dont get me wrong i do love the LS motors, but i also love the motor looking more original, both you and AL have newer motors and how you both have them done looks killer and "right" in the engine compartment.....why dont you guys consider just adding fuel injection so you can keep the "look" of your motors ?

Re: Pops 72 cheyenne dropmember build
I've got a similar motor to you, what are you not liking with the current set up, any fuel economy numbers would help. I'll figure it out next year, but don't face the driving you do, shorter distances, and less shows. Which LS would you choose? Maybe a 6 spd and a fuel injection would help. Love this ride.

Re: Pops 72 cheyenne dropmember build
Here is my thought and my issue. The ls is a far superior motor compared to the old small block. My motor gets like 12 miles to the gallon. You fix an oil leak and 5000 miles later its leaking again. You can get 20 mile to a gallon with an ls and they are bullet proof. You can through boost at them with stock internals and they stay together. Don't get me wrong I love the way my motor looks but if you are going to drive the hell out of it the ls is the way to go.

Re: Pops 72 cheyenne dropmember build
Sounds like you're the guys to talk to, I just put a new Dart SHP sbc the rear main leaked immediately from your comments it sounds like I shouldn't try to fix it. Just a Quarters size when shut down, very disappointed, a leaky beast was one of the goals to get rid of.
I'll live with it for a long while, I'm broke now, but always planning for the future...that part is free |

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The GM LS engine family is an engine design intended as the only V-8 engine used in General Motors' line of rear-wheel-drive cars and trucks. The LS series was a "clean sheet" design with little in common with the classic Chevrolet small block V8. Some LS engines are all-aluminium, especially the performance oriented engines, while others are cast iron, and all LS engines have 6-bolt main bearing caps. The LS engine has been the sole powerplant of the Chevrolet Corvette since 1997 and has seen use in a wide variety of other General Motors vehicles, ranging from sport coupes to full size trucks. Due to the engine's relatively compact external dimensions compared to its displacement and power output, the engine family is also a popular choice for kit cars, hot rods, buggies, and even light aircraft.

Re: Pops 72 cheyenne dropmember build
i do agree that the LS is a better engine and i plan on driving mine alot also, and i know it is crazy to say as modified as my truck is i just want the motor to resemble the stock look, i hope i am happy the Throttle body injection i think that it will be a very dependable set up just not a hot rod....surely there is some way to stop the leaks ??

Re: Pops 72 cheyenne dropmember build
Thanks guys..so how different do they look under then hood from a big/small block? it seems that that is bit of a concern for all those considering the swap.
Just had a look in the wiki article...I now see why, they just look like any modern engine.

Re: Pops 72 cheyenne dropmember build
Mike I have heard positive and negatives on the throttle body injection kits that are out on the market. I am not sure they are worth the money. My truck fires every time and it is carberated. I don't think you will see that much better gas mileage ether. I have had a few friends put the self gunning throttle body's on there small blocks and they had a hell of a time running them. Not trying to sway you just letting you know.
